The lowest of the low

I've been using the phrase "the unthinkable is already happening" as a way of helping take in new events.
Apparently, that includes the morally unthinkable too. Two US Senators, Richard Burr and Kelly Loeghler, both Republicans, responded to the briefings they received publically by downplaying the threat, and telling people everything was fine.
In private, they took the opportunity to dump millions of dollars of stocks. Loeghler also bought up some shares in a company specialising in remote working. Burr gave "VIP"s in a private club a much more negative - and realistic forecast - than he gave the public.
