Green Party leadership election

Post by Woodchopper » Mon Jul 27, 2020 7:54 am

The England and Wales Green Party is holding a leadership election. Online voting ends on 31 August.

Here’s some basic information about the candidates:

(Great if others could add info, I found the above via Google, just thought it might be good to discuss the Green Party).

They're also voting for their next appointment to the Lords. Here are the candidates:

(COI statement - I've known Andrew Cooper for over forty years, and frankly, he'd be an excellent choice)
It first was a rumour dismissed as a lie, but then came the evidence none could deny:

Voting on that rather than it being the gift of the party leader does seem like a good idea.

Green party re-elects co-leaders Siân Berry and Jonathan Bartley
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... an-bartley
Berry and Bartley, who took over from the previous leadership combination of Bartley and Caroline Lucas after easily winning the 2018 leadership election, took 49% of first-preference votes, the party said in a statement.

[...]

The party’s deputy leader, Amelia Womack, was re-elected for a fourth term.

Given what BOAF flagged up about Brexit and fishing regs, I wonder if the Greens could use this to rebrand as somehow business friendly...find other examples of this kind of thing and get them onside.

I'm sure I saw that in a previous leadership election, the Greens addressed the gender/non-binary issue in their equal-representation co-leadership by having one of the leadership posts open to candidates who do not identify as a man, and one open to candidates who do not identify as a woman. But I couldn't find that in the documentation for this time round. It seemed like a rather creative idea.

Siân Berry and Jonathan Bartley have stepped down. So I guess there will be a new election.
