Bristol's reputation for being a haven for hipsters has peaked with an exclusive lockdown tier. You probably haven't heard of it...
Schools are open and people can go to work, so not quite the same Lockdown as previously? How different does it look to Tier 3, where presumably most of England will be in very soon? Restaurants can stay open, I think, under T3. Otherwise broadly similar?Brightonian wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 7:41 pmFrance has just gone into national lockdown again, effective tomorrow night until 1 December. I was listening to Macron waffle on and on in his 8pm announcement, waiting for him to get to the point, and I think no travel will be allowed between regions. I'm actually in central France at the moment and was due to travel this Friday to the Paris region. In anticipation of this I had the SNCF booking page loaded and quickly booked another train for tomorrow morning.

There is no shielding anymore anywhere...yet. OH is being sent back to work next week after 6 months on furlough and we are in tier 3+ apparently. He has letters from the hospital though saying work from home if possible (lab work so not possible) and if not strict social distancing and an occupational health assessment. It's a rubbish situation.nezumi wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 3:13 pmI'm in Middlesbrough, which is in lockdown level... Nobody Knows. The local map shows mega high incidence in the local area, but I haven't had any shielding letter or anything this time. It's a good thing I'm working from home indefinitely (at least until March apparently) so I don't need it this time. I did last time but didn't get one until April 1st, by which point I'd signed myself off with panic attacks anyway. I just worry that there are people who need that letter to excuse themselves from higher risk jobs won't be accommodated by their employers.
So I'm Staying Indoors, bollocks to it.

It's crazy. Senor von Late's nephew (who isn't vulnerable), who works at a garden centre, has been furloughed since April, right the way through the summer when Covid had dropped really low, people are more likely to be outside etc, and now he is going back to work next week. His area is in level 3 which is no meeting indoors, restaurants/cafes etc shut at 6pm, no alcohol, no non-essential transport etc. He lives in a house with 3 other people who are all vulnerable (but not shielding-level vulnerable).mediocrity511 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 4:14 pmThere is no shielding anymore anywhere...yet. Saw a news story somewhere that French school students aged over 6 will be required to wear masks. Also, restaurants, bars and non-essential shops will have to close. This is from midnight tonight; I just went out to do some shopping (am now in Paris) and a local street that has lots of shops, cafes and restaurants is very busy. One cafe I noticed was packed with drinkers. Maybe the locals won't go on a massive binge like people did in the centres of British cities the night before a lockdown, but still it was a bit disconcerting.badger wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 8:15 amSchools are open and people can go to work, so not quite the same Lockdown as previously? I saw the "masks in schools from age 6" thing in the papers too. Will be interesting to see how that works out next week and see if it has any effect here in UK...Brightonian wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 5:55 pmSaw a news story somewhere that French school students aged over 6 will be required to wear masks. I thought it was a problem with our TV - didn't realise it was a problem with the presentation itself. f.cking hell, that really is the icing on the cake.
