Can't believe they knocked on windows and shone torches. Wow.
Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
You just know that the Christian Right, both here and in the US, are going to be retweeting this as evidence of Christianity being suppressed by atheists and devil worshippers.
And remember that if you botch the exit, the carnival of reaction may be coming to a town near you.

Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
France has just gone into national lockdown again, effective tomorrow night until 1 December. I was listening to Macron waffle on and on in his 8pm announcement, waiting for him to get to the point, and I think no travel will be allowed between regions. I'm actually in central France at the moment and was due to travel this Friday to the Paris region. In anticipation of this I had the SNCF booking page loaded and quickly booked another train for tomorrow morning.

We're not allowed out of Andalusia region for the next 2 weeks. I suspect it will be longer, and may end up with provincial restrictions too.
Time for a big fat one.

One of my friends on Facebook:
Bristol's reputation for being a haven for hipsters has peaked with an exclusive lockdown tier. You probably haven't heard of it...
Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
Schools are open and people can go to work, so not quite the same Lockdown as previously? How different does it look to Tier 3, where presumably most of England will be in very soon? Restaurants can stay open, I think, under T3. Otherwise broadly similar?Brightonian wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 7:41 pmFrance has just gone into national lockdown again, effective tomorrow night until 1 December. Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
So far the only re-lockdown here is a restriction on leaving our municipality over the upcoming long weekend (to stop all the contaminated urbanites taking it back to their families in the countryside). I think a longer break would be good, so that we're allowed Christmas.

We're getting popped into Level 3, which means: https://www.gov.scot/publications/coron ... n-level-3/
Edit: heh page is being updated, it wasn't a couple of minutes ago. It's like a lucky dip.

Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
I'm in Middlesbrough, which is in lockdown level... Nobody Knows. The local map shows mega high incidence in the local area, but I haven't had any shielding letter or anything this time. It's a good thing I'm working from home indefinitely (at least until March apparently) so I don't need it this time. I did last time but didn't get one until April 1st, by which point I'd signed myself off with panic attacks anyway. I just worry that there are people who need that letter to excuse themselves from higher risk jobs won't be accommodated by their employers.
So I'm Staying Indoors, bollocks to it.

Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
There is no shielding anymore anywhere...yet. OH is being sent back to work next week after 6 months on furlough and we are in tier 3+ apparently. He has letters from the hospital though saying work from home if possible (lab work so not possible) and if not strict social distancing and an occupational health assessment. It's a rubbish situation.nezumi wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 3:13 pmI'm in Middlesbrough, which is in lockdown level... Nobody Knows. Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
It's crazy. Senor von Late's nephew (who isn't vulnerable), who works at a garden centre, has been furloughed since April, right the way through the summer when Covid had dropped really low, people are more likely to be outside etc, and now he is going back to work next week. His area is in level 3 which is no meeting indoors, restaurants/cafes etc shut at 6pm, no alcohol, no non-essential transport etc. He lives in a house with 3 other people who are all vulnerable (but not shielding-level vulnerable).mediocrity511 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 4:14 pmThere is no shielding anymore anywhere...yet. Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
Saw a news story somewhere that French school students aged over 6 will be required to wear masks. Also, restaurants, bars and non-essential shops will have to close. This is from midnight tonight; I just went out to do some shopping (am now in Paris) and a local street that has lots of shops, cafes and restaurants is very busy. One cafe I noticed was packed with drinkers. Maybe the locals won't go on a massive binge like people did in the centres of British cities the night before a lockdown, but still it was a bit disconcerting.badger wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 8:15 amSchools are open and people can go to work, so not quite the same Lockdown as previously? Notice in shop in Paris (I think the bottom line says something like "The President will pick up the cost"):
Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
I saw the "masks in schools from age 6" thing in the papers too. Will be interesting to see how that works out next week and see if it has any effect here in UK...Brightonian wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 5:55 pmSaw a news story somewhere that French school students aged over 6 will be required to wear masks. Also saw a heavily retweeted video of "Paris Exodus" yesterday evening taken from a rooftop. Streams of car lights and horns blaring as people went to find space for the lockdown.

Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
I don't actually know how they're going to lock things down again without heavier police force this time. My sister lives in a Tier 3 area, and says that loads of people aren't following the rules, they've just given up. She's paying attention because she has cancer, has just had an operation, is about to have at least radiotherapy and is very vulnerable.

Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
Oxford is moving to tier 2 at midnight tonight. Just Oxford, not the whole county like all the local councils wanted because they reckon it's spreading from younger to older folk, they obviously want to get on top of it asap, before hospital admissions shoot through the roof.
Local Tory MPs don't want the rest of Oxfordshire moving to tier 2. Because pubs. Or something.
(I didn't think our case rate was all that high. I'd check the latest PHE weekly report to see how we compare to other areas, but there hasn't been one since 2 Oct, and even that one only had break downs by region, not county.)
ETA: Government map says Oxford is at 137 cases per 100,000, Oxfordshire is at 120. Both below national average. Slightly.

Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
The new lockdown tier 4 "tough new national measures" as announced by the prime minister in a twitter thread for c.nting f.ck's sake.
having that swing is a necessary but not sufficient condition for it meaning a thing

There's going to be a press announcement at 3... 4... 5... 6.30...8... Not going to happen?
Has he hanged himself or summat?
Someone check behind the sofa and in the fridge. Boris?! Boris?! Where are yoooooou?
Or perhaps Dominic Cummings is holding the speech to ransom.

Probably watching the rugger with the lads.
So, there you go. UK re-lockdowned next month as well. Turns out SAGE and Starmer were right all along.
Leaking to the media hours before the PM bothered to turn up was a nice touch.

They had Gupta on the telly while waiting for the announcement. She was stilling going on about heard immunity and pretending that shielding the vulnerable will work. Had me swearing at the telly. Loudly.

Just listening to someone drone on and on on BBC1's covid special - with graphs! Shame they couldn't actually get them on the screen without bits dropping off the side..
Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
Lockdown from Thursday. Why not earlier?
Re: Covid-19 the re-lockdown
It's the British sense of fair play, giving the pandemic a head start.
My avatar was a scientific result that was later found to be 'mistaken' - I rarely claim to be 100% correct
ETA 5/8/20: I've been advised that the result was correct, it was the initial interpretation that needed to be withdrawn
Meta? I'd say so!

I thought it was a problem with our TV - didn't realise it was a problem with the presentation itself. f.cking hell, that really is the icing on the cake.
it's okay to say "I don't know"
