It was worth watching, quite superficial but you could tell there was a lot behind it. It has a clear meaning in various polygynous non-human species that have highly structured social/mating systems - e.g. in elephant seals, or particularly in lekking species such as sage grouse or some deer. The alpha in a given social group is the one that mates with the most females (pretty much by definition).
In some species alpha status does depend on physical dominance and violence (e.g. elephant seals) but in others it depends on doing stuff like strutting around endlessly displaying impressive plumage and making noises.
Modern Western human social systems are not really structured in such a way (in clear groups) to make the concept of an "alpha" meaningful - every Peterson fan is probably a wannabe "alpha" in his own bedroom.

Alpha males do a lot of peacekeeping in social animal groups as well as getting the pick of the females. It's the strutting, shagging part that JP and his boys aspire to rather than the responsibility part. They also ignore the fact that females are pretty good at sneaking off to mate with other males. Human alphas are often men who are in strong social positions because of inherited wealth and privilege, which says nothing about their personal qualities.

It's not so much mating that's the problem, it's having kids and then not parenting them. As humans can control conception, having multiple partners isn't a problem as long as there's no deception.
