He calls a woman ugly, people tell him he's out of order, he throws his toys out of the pram. Such a prince among men.

He also dressed up his personal dislike of the woman's appearance to have some deep political meaning.Tessa K wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 10:49 amHe calls a woman ugly, people tell him he's out of order, he throws his toys out of the pram. Such a prince among men.
How dare anyone police his desirebjn wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 11:59 amHe also dressed up his personal dislike of the woman's appearance to have some deep political meaning.
The man can fancy whatever adult ever he happens to find attractive. But the post in question was very much about policing other peoples desires.
Of course we all have preferences and there are people we find unattractive but why publicly pick on someone? Such a bully.
It’s not like alpha male actually has a meaning, except if someone thinks they are one it maps very well onto whether they’re a massive bellend or not.Bird on a Fire wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 5:25 pmIt's not bullying, it's being an alpha male, or something.

Anyone who is concerned about appearing to be an alpha, isn't. Have you seen the Frans de Waal TED talk about what being an alpha really means? Well worth watchingGrumble wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 6:23 pmIt’s not like alpha male actually has a meaning, except if someone thinks they are one it maps very well onto whether they’re a massive bellend or not.Bird on a Fire wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 5:25 pmIt's not bullying, it's being an alpha male, or something.

Because he’s a massive bellend?
Seconded.Tessa K wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 6:29 pmAnyone who is concerned about appearing to be an alpha, isn't. Have you seen the Frans de Waal TED talk about what being an alpha really means? Isn't part of the problem that their bellends are perhaps not as massive as they might wish?jimbob wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 8:27 pmSeconded.
And self proclaimed Alpha males are both massive bellends and probably suspect that they might not be so superior.
It was worth watching, quite superficial but you could tell there was a lot behind it. I take it back about not having a meaning, but it doesn’t have the same meaning most people who use the term mean by it.Tessa K wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 6:29 pmAnyone who is concerned about appearing to be an alpha, isn't. It has a clear meaning in various polygynous non-human species that have highly structured social/mating systems - e.g. in elephant seals, or particularly in lekking species such as sage grouse or some deer. The alpha in a given social group is the one that mates with the most females (pretty much by definition).
Alpha males do a lot of peacekeeping in social animal groups as well as getting the pick of the females. It's the strutting, shagging part that JP and his boys aspire to rather than the responsibility part. They also ignore the fact that females are pretty good at sneaking off to mate with other males. There is very little monogamy in nature.bob sterman wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 7:21 amIt has a clear meaning in various polygynous non-human species that have highly structured social/mating systems - e.g. in elephant seals, or particularly in lekking species such as sage grouse or some deer. In some species alpha status does depend on physical dominance and violence (e.g. elephant seals) but in others it depends on doing stuff like strutting around endlessly displaying impressive plumage and making noises.
Modern Western human social systems are not really structured in such a way (in clear groups) to make the concept of an "alpha" meaningful - every Peterson fan is probably a wannabe "alpha" in his own bedroom.
Exactly, in human society mating with lots of females is problematic - although maybe by that definition Boris really is an alpha?bob sterman wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 7:21 amIt has a clear meaning in various polygynous non-human species that have highly structured social/mating systems - e.g. in elephant seals, or particularly in lekking species such as sage grouse or some deer. It's not so much mating that's the problem, it's having kids and then not parenting them. As humans can control conception, having multiple partners isn't a problem as long as there's no deception. JP type alpgas and wannabes want the sex without the responsibility.Grumble wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 7:50 amExactly, in human society mating with lots of females is problematic - although maybe by that definition Boris really is an alpha?bob sterman wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 7:21 amIt has a clear meaning in various polygynous non-human species that have highly structured social/mating systems - e.g. in elephant seals, or particularly in lekking species such as sage grouse or some deer.
