Capitol Insurrection Schadenfreude

I feel there is a distinction to be made between examining the horrendous assault we all saw on the US Capitol, which absolutely deserves a thread, and the occasional pleasure we can take from watching the consequences play out. I could watch MAGA tears all day.

Is that an onion or a sponge in the towel?

Looks like an onion to me. There's an urban myth that it helps with things like mace and tear gas by making your eyes water.

I don’t get why someone who wasn’t expecting to get tear gassed would have an onion handy. Or maybe someone else had a big bag handy and was handing them out?

I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Gimme five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we... oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have any white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones.

If she wasn't expecting to get gassed by security, perhaps she was just prepared in case she was downwind when her fellow Republicunts were gassing the police?

Apparently Palestinians used onions to defend themselves against tear gas. It was meant to be lemons in '68 when the French students were protesting.

BLM were distributing guidance for how best to deal with tear gas (move away, seek ventilation and wash with cold water only), dispelling many of these common myths including lemons, onions and milk.

That's what happens in organised movements that care about the well-being of their participants.

If the Trump cult get organised they'll be pretty terrifying.

Mark Thomas has a bit about that in his rambling the security fence book. Think he might even have said the onion worked, but don't remember now.

The trouble is, if you get arrested you turn into an armed protestor cos you need a knife to cut it, but you can use the chopping board as a shield.

I mean the idea is to make your eyes water, so you might as well just bite into like an apple. (Crinkle off the outer papery skin first)

There has been a bit of political violence in the US for the last few years, a lot of it including both sides spraying mace at each other. Might not have been the police she (or whoever gave it to her*) brought the onion for.

Enough of being fair, getting upset that you got maced for trying to do a revolution is very funny.

*I suspect this one, she didn't come across as someone who thought ahead.

CS gas is alkali, I think? And onions/lemons acidic

Another of the domestic terrorists was arrested:
23-year-old William Watson of Auburn is believed to be the bearded man in the tan sweatshirt in an image released by Metropolitan Police Department. Watson is wanted in a joint effort by the U.S. Secret Service and FBI as investigators continue locating and arresting individuals in a mob of President Donald Trump supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol as lawmakers worked to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
Interestingly,
News 3 confirmed Watson was arrested by Auburn back on July 2 on drug charges, including Trafficking in Marijuana and LSD and Drug Possession, and released on a $103,000 bond. Watson’s bond was revoked Monday morning after a Lee County Judge approved the Lee County District Attorney’s Office Motion.
Ballsy move, being a weed trafficker who not only wants to block the certification of an election that was about to make weed federally legal but also breaking a $100k bond to participate in a coup attempt!

At 23 he's still very young and stupid, and thanks to the Republican policies he loves so much his entire life is likely now f.cked.

Quality quotation from the long-haired lectern-stealing terrorist''s lawyer:
A second lawyer of Johnson's, Dan Eckhart, acknowledged the photograph of their client may present a problem defending in court.

"I don't know how else to explain that, but yeah, that would be a problem. I'm not a magician, and neither is Mr. Bigney. So yeah, we have a photograph of our client, who appears to be in a federal building or inside the Capitol with government property," Eckhart said.
I actually quite surprised he's accepted legal counsel at all - I assumed he'd be taking the stand himself.

Also:
Johnson is a stay-at-home dad who lives with his wife and five boys. His prior criminal history includes possession of marijuana and violation of probation charges.
Another weed head making poor life decisions. Reefer madness!
