"Let our neighbours go"

Just as the Government is borrowing the Republican neo-fascist play book on voter suppression and protest termination, so they are copying ICE on immigration. Fortunately the good people of Pollokshields are not taking it lying down, apart from the one lying underneath the Immigration Enforcement van, bless him.

This is why I would vote for Scottish independence in another referendum. Things have changed in the English Polity, and it isn't just Brexit.

This is a very good thing to read
"Police Scotland does not assist in the removal of asylum seekers. "
"Officers are at the scene to police the protest and to ensure public safety."

That's wonderful. Restores your faith in humanity, that does. I often despair at how hostile the nation that organised the Kindertransport has become.

What’s England got to do with it?

The impetus for the whole "hostile environment" etc seems to be driven by little Englanders and their far-right fantasies. According to the article Scotland's been asking for devolved immigration powers for ages, but Westminster (in, and de facto controlled by the voters of, England) said no.

I may be wrong, but this seems entirely the result of Tory policies, and therefore England. And this is what England will continue to be like after Scottish independence, at least on a good day.

Note: this is how you protest. You have to inconvenience the baddies somehow.

Imagine if these Glaswegians had asked the police where they were allowed to demonstrate with a bunch of frightfully amusing placards.

This _didn't_ happen there.

really proud of my former home city. This isn't the first time (and sadly probably won't be the last) that Glaswegians have prevented deportations. The Glasgow girls got so popular because of it they made a film! Plus they did it (as far as i could tell) peacefully and without disrupting anything other than the authorities.

Glasgow welcomes everyone into it's arms. Basically if you choose to live there you're a weegie and they love you for it. Just don't talk to anyone about football
