and a group of far-right US film-makers who are trying to fundraise for a film about the Celts.

Re: Far right pseudohistory and pseudoarchaeology
Thanks for sharing that. There was a good doc on iPlayer a while ago about the origins of the KKK and how Scottish/Celtic mythology fed into it. It's not available at the moment but if it comes back it's this - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07yjk0j. It may be available elsewhere. (Some irony in that it's presented by Neil Oliver who it turns out is pretty rightist himself)jimbob wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 8:24 pmNice article about that

The film sounds about as good and as accurate as the Scientology one John Travolta did, Battlefield Earth.
I think I'll stick to Asterix for my fictional version of the past.

I grew up on the Slaine comic strip, which featured all of the tropes about ancient celtic druids and musclemen with swords etc.. as well as decadent, oppressive multicultural romans but it was written by a left-leaning anarchist and environmentalist (Pat Mills).
Is the author sure that the tropes he sees in this TV shows arent just somebody trying to appeal to teenagers? Hard to tell because he doesnt name the show.

A lot of archaeologists have.
According to Dr Tess Machling (of the Prehistoric Society) the account had a different handle before and was even more clearly Nazi.

Poor guy is going to be pretty disillusioned when he reads Gildas' De Excidio et Conquestu Britanniae
