He did know it was against the rules = Lied to Parliament - Resignation.

He didn't know it was against his own rules = Terminally thick - Resignation.

I can't see an alternative ... but I expect he has one.
Think he's doing the only thing he can do, which is to try and ride it out and hope it goes away. But it won't. Even if Gray's report says he did no wrong, no one will believe it and will see it as a stich up.

He won't resign, he'll be no-confidenced, and Tory MPs seem to be arguing about when to give him the boot, rather than whether they should.

Or as Johnson would put it:-
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Proin nunc est, maximus eu mattis id, scelerisque non orci. Fusce vitae diam arcu. Wiffle Piffle Boffle. Donec ac neque ut ante bibendum tempor. Vestibulum nec purus interdum, convallis purus eget, finibus risus. Can I impregnate you? Nunc mollis velit quis ipsum eleifend fermentum. Nam finibus felis leo, in mollis risus pretium non. Nam sollicitudin massa at malesuada dictum. Grinning picaninnies. Vivamus in nisi tincidunt felis pharetra vehicula. Cras sollicitudin ligula nec risus tristique imperdiet vitae quis dui. Sed et finibus urna. Gis some cash, guvnor.

This is the same PM whose argument with the EU over NI boils down to them tricking him into signing a WA that he either hadn't read or hadn't realised to consequences of. Terminally thick does not seem to be a resignation issue for him.

I'm kind of lost for words.

It's just...

how can he think that this makes him look better?

The fact that he thinks that answer helps him is mind-blowing to me.
This is the Donald Trump approach.

Just heard on the Radio that Boris is denying being advised (by Dom and others) in advance of the party that it was a bad idea... (which would really be some pretty barefaced lying to parliament). I'm really hoping this is another trap and the evidence email of "Hey BoJo, this party next week is a bad idea" comes out any day now...
Plenty of wriggle room for the gullible though. I was told there was a gathering. I saw the tables with cheese and wine. But nobody told me that it was against the rules.
The thing is, this actually is inline with his brand. So he's spent a lot of effort reinforcing the image that with just a little tweak now looks like this to his disgruntled former fans.

I mean, we've all been pissed and gone to a party we shouldn't have.

That's aged rather too well!

Yet still people will insist that there was no possible way of predicting that a Johnson administration would play out exactly as it did with mind-numbing inevitability.

PMQs in fifteen minutes. What do we reckon the chances are that Johnson or some simpering tw.t in his party will call for Starmer to apologise for having a beer during an actual work meeting?

I've reached the stage where if Johnson doesn't cry during PMQs I'll feel let down.

I know, right, let's have a few more defections over the next few days - anything that chips away at that majority will help.

Anyone know what the precendent for this is? Don't think I've ever paid attention to MP defections before.

Yeah lpm, those delicious Tory tears! If only they were capable of basic human emotion.

He can't do that until Sue Gray tells him to.

Another visit to Erskine May, like it's 2019 again.

https://erskinemay.parliament.uk/sectio ... l%20family
No question can be put which brings the name of the Sovereign or the influence of the Crown directly before Parliament, or which casts reflections upon the Sovereign or the royal family. A question has been altered at the Speaker's direction on the ground that the name of the Sovereign should not be introduced to affect the views of the House. Questions are, however, allowed on such matters as the costs to public funds of royal events and royal palaces.

Surprised Johnson didn't recognise the famous Leo Amery quote, which in turn was a quote of Oliver Cromwell: "You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing."

Johnson "wrote" a book on Churchill ffs.

Perhaps he was just pretending not to recognise the quote,
