Yeah, it'd be bad for the Tories, but a Labour Leadership election might not a great thing for Labour to go through either.
I doubt he'd actually have to resign, because it doesn't look like he's done anything wrong, but it seems that over half the UK disagrees with me on that
clicky. Even if he doesn't get a fine, there's probably been some reputational damage already.

There was reputational damage anyway even before all this. If the police find him not guilty, it's just another stick to beat Johnson with. If they find him guilty, he'll resign, it's another stick to beat Johnson with.

I dunno, I don't think it's as hopeless as all that, but I guess it's all down to Durham police and whether they have any sense. Labour haven't purged all their talent out of the party unlike the Tories.
An option for Durham is to do what they did with Cummings and say there might have been a minor breach but whatevs, we cba. If they do that, would he resign? f.ck knows. Should he? f.ck knows.
