Cabinet ministers vying to succeed Boris Johnson have been warned by Tory colleagues that they will damage their chances unless they stridently oppose further Covid measures in England.
“If No 10 proposes tighter restrictions straight after Christmas, those cabinet ministers with freedom-loving instincts – who gave us all so much hope last week – must speak out,” said one member of the Covid Recovery Group of Tory MPs. “In any future leadership contest, we will all remember how they acted this week. We need real, gutsy, freedom-loving Conservatives to rescue us from this madness.”
... while the rest of the UK reintroduces restrictions England will be the control group.

Jesus f.cking Christ. Not surprising but always fairly disgusting to read. The way omicron is spreading it seems pretty clear that the only way to be fairly certain you won't catch it is to just not leave the house at all. Class warfare*.

*and age warfare, sickness warfare, etc etc.

Plus you don't need to compensate businesses if they haven't been ordered to close, and it doesn't upset the back benchers.

Infected on Christmas day means infectious on New Year's Eve. The timing of all this is comically unlucky.

It was comic when it happened last year.

The joke's wearing a bit thin for my tastes, especially when the punchline has been heavily signposted for months.
