The first person to work out what ants were talking about.

And equally inspirational on the huge scale - Half-Earth is a call to arms and he managed to get the UN to campaign for 30% by 2030.

Tragic. Wilson was a really inspiring guy - managed to be a crack field naturalist, an innovative theoretician and an engaged conservationist. From what I've heard he was also an excellent supervisor and collaborator.

I know he had a good innings and seemed to be living it to the full, but he was still going strong - Genesis and Tales from the Ant World were both excellent recently.

Half Earth has been on my reading list for ages - guess it's just got bumped up.
We have the right to a clean, healthy, sustainable environment.
