European weapons stocks are running low as EU member states are making efforts to send military aid to Ukraine, the EU’s chief diplomat Josep Borrell warned on Monday (5 September), renewing calls to better coordinate European supplies to the war-torn country.

“The military stocks of most member states have been, I wouldn’t say exhausted, but depleted in a high proportion, because we have been providing a lot of capacity to the Ukrainians,” Borrell said during a debate with lawmakers in the European Parliament.

“It has to be refilled. The best way of refilling is doing that together. It will be cheaper,” he added.

To ensure faster delivery, a large part of the weaponry European is currently providing to Ukraine is coming from countries’ own stocks rather than being purpose-built.
This, however, means some member states also face difficulties with the speed of stocking up their own reserves.

The appeal comes a week after EU defence ministers debated in Prague how to better pool military resources earmarked for Ukraine’s war effort.

At the same time, Borrell also levelled some criticism at the member states for deciding too late to approve the training of Ukrainian armed forces.

Declassified US intelligence says Russia is turning to North Korea to buy millions artillery shells and rockets—raising questions about the ability of Russia to supply its army.
https://twitter.com/julianbarnes/status ... mEhkMF-qZg

Not a big surprise given how much Russia is using. Even the US had to source foreign ammunition supplies during the Iraq war.

North Korea will be able to supply a lot of volume. But maybe not such high quality.
Buying North Korean means China didn't want to sell them arms, I expect.

China can see that it's not currently helpful to be seen to be assisting the Russians. Their best interest is just standing back to watch what looks like a proxy war as it consumes lots of Western and Russian materiel. Meantime I presume China won't mind filing a very large order for artillery shells from North Korea.

Yes, I agree. North Korea could just be a conduit for Chinese ammuniton.

But either way we'll get confirmation when people start finding it on the battlefields. A captured ammunition dump full of Chinese or Korean writing would be interesting.

That's entirely plausible. It's also possible that China is saving their stocks for their own purposes while others are running theirs down.

The Council of Smolninskoye Municipal Formation (MF) in St Petersburg has decided to call on Russia’s State Duma deputies to bring charges of treason against Russian President Vladimir Putin in order to dismiss him from office for starting the Ukraine war.

The news of St Petersburg Municipal Deputies calling for Russia’s State Duma to accuse Putin of treason was reported by Dmitry Palyuga, a deputy of the Smolninskoye municipality.

Watch this roundup of clips, featuring panicked Kremlin propagandists on several state TV programs, discussing impressive gains by Ukraine's Armed Forces in reclaiming control over Ukrainian territory. More in my article ⤵️

Basically the Russians are fluffing it badly. My hope is that they have fluffed it badly enough that it erodes their will to fight in front of stiff Ukrainian opposition. The momentum stops, it turns into a grind and Putin has humiliated Russian in front of the world and has overreached himself. Grieving Russian mothers are out for blood, frustrated oligarchs don't get to spend their stolen money and the knives come out. Someone less tainted gets to take over, Putin is blamed for everything and it's all swept under the carpet.

Here's hoping anyway.
My hope from February, UKR seems to be going much better than “turning into a grind”.

Speculation: Given recent news of internal dissent in Russia, further collapses at the front should lead to more objections and hopefully Putin falling out a window. At the very least, some chaos and distraction on the home front further undermining RU will to prosecute the war.

This is a dangerous time for the world. I fully expect Russia to react by raising the stakes, taking out that nuclear plant, using chemical weapons, or even resorting to tactical nukes.

FFS, just hand all Western Europe over to them instead shall we? He’s backed down at every single turn. All they have is the energy embargo.

Russia should come to its senses, sue for peace, negotiate, make painful but necessary territorial concessions, demilitarize and avoid unnecessary deaths now it's clear they can't win a war against a superior force.

They should understand that flags are just symbols; why does it matter if the flag over Bilhorod is red white and blue or blue and yellow? North Korea and Iran should stop trying to fight to the last Russian and realise that sending weapons only prolongs the misery. Ultimately, weaker, more corrupt nations cannot hope to contend with military powers like Ukraine.

Good point. Eastern europe will have to be wary of a militarized and confidant Ukraine.

Ukraine isn't an imperialist power making territorial demands upon their neighbours. They are not fascists, which is presumably why you aren't licking their boots right now.

You mean the Ukraine most of Eastern Europe has been arming and who have been taking the bulk of their refugees?

The age of invasions is over. OVER. Russia should never have crossed out of its borders. There was no bl..dy justification for it. And you pour out this drivel.
