Angela Rayner

I’m beginning to think her inability to predict the political ramifications of what comes out of her mouth could cost the Labour Party dearly.

She's John Prescot to Starmer's Blair... got to have a gruff northern commoner speaking a bit of the stuff working class folks like to say down the pub.

Sadly, the UK is not entirely packed with sensible people, and that sort of b.llsh.t goes down very well with the millions of people who read the scum and the daily heil.

Re: Angela Rayner
What Labour party?
As far as I can tell there are now two tory party's.
I actually had hopes that Rayner was just biding her time putting up with Keith's swing towards UKIP but unfortunately it seems she is every bit as bad as the rest of the PLP excluding one or two.

Re: Angela Rayner
Being "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime" is what Labour want to talk about at the moment. As in the Blair years* they seem to be forgetting about the 2nd bit.
*The slogan was also in the 2017 manifesto.

Re: Angela Rayner
People love missing the second part of sayings. They do it with "one bad apple" all the time.
it's okay to say "I don't know"
Re: Angela Rayner
Actually, I think I was wrong. Steve Reed hasn't forgotten about the second bit, he's been fairly explicit that it just shouldn't have too much weight:
clickyBut slamming his party’s past record, [Steve Reed] told the Mirror: “Given the period that Labour’s gone through over the last 10 years, but particularly under the last leadership - the days when Labour cared more about the criminals than about their victims are well and truly over.”
Mr Reed said rehabilitation and tackling the causes of crime are essential. But he added: “I think when Jeremy Corbyn was the leader, we gave the impression that we were more concerned about the criminals than about their victims.
“And I think Blair got this right actually. Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime is the right thing to do. I think the public understand the balance between those two aspects.
“There are things in people’s lives that make them more likely to offend, but you can get out of balance with that.
“And I think if you over-focus on the things that have happened in people’s lives that lead them to offend, it can sound like you’re trying to excuse what they’ve done.
“We cannot, because they’ve damaged someone else’s life.”
ETA: I worry that with the opposition talking like this, needed Police reform will be a long way down the road.

Presumably the questions that she wants to ask later include things like "Hang on, wasn't that guy a Brazilian electrician?"
Maybe she's heard that there is a vacancy at the head of the Met, and she's trying to make sure she fits the job description and person specification.

And I’m not sure the current Labour Party is likely to become anything like the current iteration of the Tory party any time soon. I’d still say they are preferable to the Boris Johnson cult even if I would prefer them to be more progressive.
TBH I thought the closest alignment with UKIP was during the Corbyn / Brexit days when it came to how they talked about immigration (Kate Hoey etc)
I’ve decided I should be on the pardon list if that’s still in the works
Re: Angela Rayner
Remember the immigration mugs? They came out under Ed Milliband, and were an appeal to likely UKIP voters. Kate Honey also wasn't very representative of Labour's position on Brexit/freedom of movement during Corbyn's time (she had one).Stranger Mouse wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 5:04 pmMust admit I thought the same.headshot wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 4:45 pmKeith. I'm wondering how many people you have pulled up about calling Jeremy Corbyn Steptoe or any other number of insulting names he has had over the years. But call the Silent Knight Keith and you lose your sh.t. Still I suppose it helps avoid the fact that Sir Abstainalot is utterly f.cking useless and is doing his best to out tory the tories.headshot wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 4:45 pmKeith. Jesus. Well no-one here has called Corbyn "Steptoe", so that'd be zero. If he has lots of other insulting nicknames, I can try those and see if I get any hits. Any suggestions?Iron Magpie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 6:37 pmI'm wondering how many people you have pulled up about calling Jeremy Corbyn Steptoe or any other number of insulting names he has had over the years. Re: Angela Rayner
Well when certain members of the party formerly known as Labour are coming out with statements like Rayners and I think it was Steve Reed (shadow communities secretary)* who wants to publicly humiliate people with his ideas of naming and shaming those convicted of drug offences then it's a fair assumption that labour has no connection to the progressive democratic socialist party that it once was and is trying to out tory the tories.Stranger Mouse wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 5:04 pmMust admit I thought the same.headshot wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 4:45 pmKeith. *I'd never heard of him before this. What a progressive chap he must be to think this is a good idea when all around the world sensible governments are treating drug use as the health issue that it is and moving away from the complete failure of the war on drugs to the point that the country that started the WoD has moved away from it as well.

Because he's not Proper Labour, or because he's boring. Take your pick.
“Originally, the Left rebranded Keir as ‘Keith’ to dissociate him from the Labour legend he’s named after”.
2nd explanation reminds me of the nickname for Palace fans - stripey Nigels.“The man is bland as vanilla and so is the name Keith, so that may also have something to do with it.”
