Lol, he's done a poll asking if he should step down, and claims it's binding.

Jared Kushner will be announced at Twitter CEO by the end of the week. Possibly by the end of the day.
More likely it'll be David Sacks, who's a long time adherent of Peter Thiel's oligarchal fascism.

Tesla has now lost more value (by percentage) this year than Bitcoin has...

In a spirit of slightly reluctant fairness, Apple and Amazon also down and Microsoft decidedly off-peak.

By 70%?

Why compare Tesla stock performances to tech companies stock performances?
Car manufacturers didn't necessarily perform better than tech companies over the past year, but at least they sell a product in competition with Teslas.

Thanks for picking that up @Holylol. Comparison with tech stocks was because of something I read about biggest losers by market cap, and Tesla do sometimes get compared with tech in general. After all, they do other stuff and Apple might make a car one day :)

This isnt something I much care about its mildly amusing (and maybe a sort of justice) that perception of Musk has added to the stock's loss of value, but I've nothing else to add.

Are we sure a 69% loss isn't just one of Musk's pathetic attempts at humour?

The key time frame to look at is from the middle/end of October, when Musk took over Twitter, and started being actively weird online, and ignoring Tesla.

There's a clear divergence from the other stocks in both charts at that time.

They're busy making it easy to track other people's cars right now.

I'm enjoying the current trend in Tesla's stock price. Inshallah Uber and other firms trying to pretend that self-driving cars will happen any time soon go the same way.

Could have never guessed that Tesla would miss quarterly delivery estimates after Elon Musk sent this in an email to employees:

"Please go all out for the next few days and volunteer to help deliver if at all possible. It will make a real difference!"

It's always been a manufacturing shitshow and less automated than other carmakers - contrary of course to the bullshitter in chief's claims - and quality control and customer service have been commensurately poor, including generally poor build quality, suspension parts that seem to fail rather too easily, extremely dangerous doors/handles that make it hard and unintuitive to escape in an emergency, a reputation for catching fire, cars delivered with hand tools still in them or mismatched interior panels, poor paintwork, rear bumpers that come off when driving through puddles, and very long waits for spare parts for existing customers.

And that's before one starts on the "autopilot", or how Tesla game the numbers to flatter its safety record despite its numerous potentially lethal habits.

It's always been like this, but it was attractive to investors - especially shallow, hobbyist ones - because the aura Musk created, largely by lying, and the idea that they would become very profitable with products that have been available in six months time for many, many years now. The more savvy investors, of course, may have known and not cared it was an inflated stock price, as there are ways to make that work as a trader.

I'm not saying don't get an electric car, do, if it is possible for your budget/usage, but don't get a Tesla.

The build problems are yesterday's problem. The build quality is now good.

The catching fire thing is funny but untrue. EV fires are extremely rare, compared to cars powered by flammable fossil fuels. But they are hard to extinguish if they happen. This is more an issue for home storage batteries if using the same chemistry.

But self drive is where the critical problem lies. The very high TSLA share price only makes sense if full self drive and the whole robot taxi thing are achievable in the near future. Which of course is fantasy.

Id go further. Teslas share price only makes sense if a) magic robot drivers AND b) the entire rest of the car industry and car-adjacent IT industry (eg Uber) sits around with its thumb up its arse whistling. The idea that Tesla has a permanent advantage over the rest of the car industry because Musky Magic is beyond stupid.

A few months ago I saw a relatively new Tesla in person. It had panel gaps of the sort one sees on an 80s Ford, and the paint was far from stellar. Just not the fit and finish one expects from an upmarket brand.

Might be a good one for the 2023 predictions thread... Tesla losing it's top spot for number of EV's sold by the end of the year...

In its review of the best EVs, Which magazine (online at least) has a paragraph 'Where is Tesla?' where they explain that customer reports of defects in Tesla cars are so high (>30% of reports) that they can't recommend any. They do point out that most adverse reports relate to fit and finish rather than function or performance, but they're not going to make any recommendation of Tesla cars while things are so poor.

That said, a thread on Tesla cars I follow has great reports (mostly by USA Tesla drivers) of how well they managed in the recent severe weather, particularly the 4 motor versions.

New Jaguars have terrible panel gaps too.
