This is getting off topic.

From my understanding about Teslas, drive train excellent and possibly still best in class, fit and finish ok to very poor, self driving a complete fantasy.

Nice take on the latest two high level Twitter resignations
Oliver Alexander
@OAlexanderDK
Though to be fair, being the head of HR at a company that doesn’t offer employees toilet paper can only be marginally more fun than being head of engineering when the CEO is randomly disconnecting sensitive server racks.

If a San Francisco jury rules in the shareholder's favour, Mr Musk may be ordered to pay billions of dollars in damages.

He has already paid $20m to the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) for the 7 August 2018 tweet, while Tesla had to pay another $20m.

The SEC also removed Mr Musk as chairman of Tesla as a result of the tweet.

Seeing more and more vatniks, and they are, to a man, anti-vaxers too. Pretty sure a lot of them are bots/Kremlinoids, especially given some of their attempts at British swearing

Probably a good idea. Text messages aren’t very secure and there are lots of cases of them being spoofed or intercepted.

Google or Microsoft Authenticator apps on a smartphone are usually thought of as more secure.

It would be a good idea to apply the policy to everyone. But what’s the point of making SMS 2FA available to paying customers?

Sorry, I meant probably a good idea for fishnut to stop using text messages for 2FA. f.ck knows what Twitter are thinking

Yeah, the consensus is that the apps are the way to go.

Elsewhere I saw someone say that looks be rather expensive.

https://www.icelandreview.com/news/hara ... ar-awards/
Halli, a 45 year-old designer, gained nation-wide recognition this year when, after the sale of his tech company Ueno to Twitter, he chose to be paid the sale price as wages. Normally in such large sales, the payment comes in the form of stock or other financial instruments, which categorize the sale as capital gains, meaning it is taxed at a much lower rate. Halli, however, gladly paid the higher tax rate, having spoken publicly on many occasions about the benefits he has received from the Icelandic social system.

wow. the guy, Halli, that Elon Musk has been mocking is not only a class act, but was literally on a list of "do not fire" VIPs because of how expensive his exit package was (likely because, if what Halli's other tweets say are true, Twitter acquired his company for a good price)

Rumour is that Twitter has managed to lose access to their internal root certificate authority and so can’t generate new certs. This happened because all the people with access to the root certificates were fired. Certificates are used to verify servers and establish secure connections between services. Certificates are now expiring and they can’t generate a new ones, Bad Things are happening as a result. This could be bad, as in very bad. With any luck terminal if they don’t have a decent disaster recovery plan.

Oops.

The problem is that when they got fired all the keys they used to access the root cert should have been destroyed/revoked. So even being re-employed won't help. Keeping hold of any of those keys post employment is a very big no-no and you shouldn't admit it whatsoever if you have them.

There is most likely a disaster recovery* plan to deal with worst situations than this. It won't be fun, but then again, Elon will probably have fired the people in charge of disaster recovery.

That's all assuming the rumour is true though.

Ah ok, destroyed keys is a much bigger problem than the wrong people being fired.

Although that's assuming that they didn't also fire the people responsible for making sure the keys were revoked.

Which could have its own issue, as other parties may then decide not to trust Twitter's root certificates.

He's an idiot.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technolo ... a-driving/

Interesting approach to getting self driving cars. Remove the radar sensor from new cars and disable it on Tesla's already on the road

Because obviously the way to get self driving cars is to first get the cost down then get the system to work.

He zeroed in on a target: the car radar sensors, which are designed to detect hazards at long ranges and prevent the vehicles from barreling into other cars in traffic. The sleek bodies of the cars already bristled with eight cameras designed to view the road and spot hazards in each direction. That, Musk argued, should be enough.

“No one believed me that working for Elon was the way it was until they saw how he operated Twitter,” Bernal said, calling Twitter “just the tip of the iceberg on how he operates Tesla.”

If the story is true it’s a case of shooting one’s own toes off precisely because they fired the wrong people.

I was pointing out that the keys should have been destroyed/revoked on termination, because have non employees with security keys is a huge security risk.

NPR and BBC object to Twitter deciding to label them "government funded media".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-65226481

Article says Twitter originally labelled NPR "state-affiliated media" which put them in the same category as propaganda outlets like RT. When NPR objected they changed it to government funded. NPR say they're ceasing tweeting on the account while that stands.
