A few years ago, I got canvassed by a Tory member on the doorstep,
An MP, a Councillor, or just a dick?
I dunno, tbh - not the MP, not sure either if it was a councillor (he didn't introduce himself). Certainly a dick though.

He was right though. You voted Labour and the country did go bankrupt. Well, not technically bankrupt, but f.cked anyway.

Because there isn't an election where you are?
I was wondering yesterday why my postal vote hadn't turned up. Checked. No election in my UK registered constituency either.
Even if there was, overseas voters cannot vote in local elections.

Oh yeah. Guess I was just being a dipshit.

Can't vote in the locals here either, thanks to brexit.

Nor EU elections. Yet one more Brexit benefit.

Even if I didn't have German citizenship I could vote in local elections here. But I wouldn't be able to vote in state, national or EU elections.

She's been suspended already https://metro.co.uk/2022/05/05/newham-l ... -16589356/

Impressive sleuthing to find a share from 2016. Shouldn't be necessary, but I'd hope most candidates have received similarly intense scrutiny so there are few (public) anti-Semites left.

Good - a real improvement over a few years ago, when Corbyn's cronies were in charge of the disciplinary process and initially refused to suspend Bull.

There have been accusations that staff investigating Antisemitism complaints at that time deliberately delayed the process to make Corbyn look bad. I have no idea how true that is, but the Forde report is supposed to be finding out what happened.

I’m not voting because i don’t give a sh.t any more. I have to go for an inconvenient walk and I’ve always done it as a matter of principle but last time the Tories got 70% of the votes locally so there’s just no f.cking point. They got more than twice the votes of Labour, Lib Dem, Green and Respect put together. Until I my responsibilities here change and I can leave the area and live somewhere else my vote is f.cking useless.

I found it really difficult to give a sh.t about these elections, but this has perked me up a bit:
a senior Tory source says the party is bracing itself for worse results than had been projected
Early days but Conservative sources very pessimistic about London: Barnet ("100% we will lose"), Wandsworth ("extremely likely to lose") and even Westminster, which they think is looking likely to switch to Labour.

Normally I used my vote in the locals to help the greens keep their deposit, but on this occasion I'd be tempted to consider tactically voting Lib Dem to try and #gtto. But then again I've tried that before, and my constituency still got Tories and the greens lost their deposit. I know how Stranger Mouse feels.

Still, it'll be nice to see the Tories do badly, and get some bad press.

A local family we half know through church (mum, dad and 30ish year old daughter) were standing as Conservative candidates in local wards this year.
Mum and dad lost, but the daughter won by 1 vote, but it was a very close 3-way split
C 399
L 398
G 372
I don't think she'll do any harm, but I don't imagine she'll do any good*

* She does a weekly newsletter across the town's churches, and about 3 weeks ago it was asking for various items 'for Ukraine' with instructions on where they were to be collected; followed about half a day later by another one saying that there were no facilities for items to be collected.

I think it's probably just a grouping of local parties not aligned to national ones. Doesn't really say much about which wing they sit in.

Overheard in the office today, concerns that Labour still hasn’t dealt with misogynistic Corbynism.

Starmer hasn’t clearly enough distanced Labour from Corbyn, despite suspending him.

There's still 2 or 2.5 years to the General Election.

There's time enough to burn remaining Corbynism to the ground and establish a "what we'll do" narrative. Starmer is steadily establishing himself as a personality and as Prime Ministerial material, with qualities that are getting quite deep roots in the electoral perception.

For now it's clearly best to keep slaughtering Johnson, plus allocating blame to all other parts of the Conservatives.

Yes, it takes years for attitudes to change among the general population. That's not to say that Labour just need to sit back and wait. But that people should expect that voters remain upset about things for a long time.

Which will help Labour in the long run, as it'll take the electorate a long time to forget about the current Tory shambles.

Fascinating to see all the Corbyn fans on social media blaming Starmer for Labour not doing better and somehow thinking that those seats which have swung to Lib Dem would somehow have gone to Labour if Corbyn was in charge.

Also, a wounded Johnson who sticks around like a bad smell is not good for the Tories.

Seems were about half way through the results and Tories are 20% down on councils.

Key thing is going to be how MP's react... is this going to turn enough of them against PM Dick? It's arguably in Labours interest if he clings on like the turd he is.
