And something green he did throw £100m at, a battery factory in Tyneside - how that going? Badly.
then Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said the (never-opening) factory and the (non-existent) jobs it was forecast to create was "exactly what levelling up looks like".
Sadly, he wasn't wrong. :|

Graham Brady confirms that there are more than 100 fuckwits in the parliamentary conservative party.

I had thought it a face-saving lie, that couldn't be easily checked. But it seems it was true, and he did decide it wouldn't go well if he stood.

For that matter, more than a hundred fuckwits backed Sunak.

There's more than a hundred Tory MPs, so the more than a hundred fuckwits in the Parliamentary Tory Party thing is a truism.

“What ho! Bradders. Do a chum a favour and put a story out about those 100 backers won’t you old chap? I’m sure Pater will chuck a little business your way. Have you been to Greece recently? I’ve heard the weather’s wonderful this time of year”.

And lo…a BBC News story was born.

Not sure why Brady would do that though unless true... surely they need 'Sunak or bust' mentality, not a Boris stalking horse in the wings.

I dunno.

Johnson graciously "choosing" not to run saves face for him while removing him from contention to replace Sunak in the short-term.

Whereas the narrative that Johnson was thwarted by 1922 Committee procedural shenanigans preventing the membership having a say is just storing up trouble for the future especially if Rishi then goes on to spectacularly fall on his arse.

Had a quick look through his evidence for the committee

One key arguement seems to be "do you really think I'd be stupid enough to let the official photographer take pictures of me at gatherings that weren't permitted"

Yes I do.

"That photo of me holding a drink at a gathering?, got to be fake. I'd never be that stupid"...

That is epic level gaslighting to try and deny that kind of evidence.

Getting strong "Father Ted kicking Bishop Brennan up the arse" vibes from this.

Does he genuinely believe he did no wrong because he doesn’t understand rules and that, yes, they apply to him as well?

I think he honestly believes he can Get Away With Stuff. And that all's fair in Love, Politics and War.

Of course not. But it sets a high bar for the committee because they need to show that he did understand them if he is to be found to have lied.

He's getting a bit cross now. So UNFAIR they expect him to obey rules.

I know we're not allowed to punch Nazis but would anyone object if I pushed Johnson in a slurry pit? I'd pull him out again.

Only if you aren’t aware that it’s against the rules.

Possibly. Can you imaginge the reaction if they released the photos during a lockdown when they were arresting people for sitting on park benches while saying “look how hard we are working”

He got enough grief on Twitter yesterday for not being sure of the guidance at essential works leaving do's. With people saying 'I couldn't attend a family member's leaving do, aka funeral, because I knew what the guidance was and stuck to it.'

I think his magic appeal to uncommitted voters has evaporated

For all the public demonstrations of Trump's shortcomings, still he has an appeal to astonishingly many, and I think the same can be true of Johnson.

This particularly amusing "cancel my subscription" letter, though not amusing in the way the writer intended, from this week's Private Eye shows what we are up against.

Lol.

It's always funny when the "Christians who defend traditional marriage" interpret that the mean supporting the serial shaggers and multiple divorced heterosexuals.

Private Eye will always attract conspiracy theorists and they are not notoriously rigorous thinkers
Have you considered stupidity as an explanation
