What might be better in that scenario is for the new PM to grant Johnson the use of a small portion of the Chequers back garden, and they and their guests have to access it via the servants' entrance.
For the lulz they should allow the party to go ahead and then arrest the party-goers for a breach of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 on the basis it constitutes a public nuisance within a controlled area liable to cause alarm and distress. 8-)
Instead for the lulz, James Cleverly went on the radio to support them being allowed to use Chequers for the wedding, and then it was announced that the wedding had been moved.

Nice to see that Johnson is still managing to cause his cabinet ministers to make fools of themselves defending him.

Amongst more surprising news this week is that Boris Johnson has a hairdresser.

Will Boris and Carrie 'forget' to tell everyone who resigned where the new party venue is?

His speech very much painted him as the Tragic Hero, the great man betrayed and abandoned by lesser mortals.

If he's going into Classics mode he should remember that those whom the gods would destroy they first make mad.

When Johnson was elected Tory leader, I tended to think he'd be there for a short while as he did the dirty jobs for them, and they would then get rid of him. 2 or 3 years perhaps. But then he won the 2019 election so convincingly, was so popular, I was no longer sure that was true.

A wise commentator said, a few months ago, the Tories always unseat a leader who has become much less popular than the party itself. For that is the sensible thing to do. And so he became much more unpopular than the party. And so it was now rational to unseat him. I tended to think that the main contenders were trying to wait until a point arrived the most convenient length of time before the next election, for a new leader to establish themselves and still to have new-leader-bounce when the election came. Indeed Liz Truss said more or less exactly that earlier this week.

But after he had been there for a bit, it looked rather like he was entrenching his position, and was going to be there for a long time. He did win that confidence vote recently. The party's personnel has had a large turnover recently, and appeared to have many people who either approved of him or had been bought by him. As with Trump, it didn't seem to matter every time he was found out lying or rule-breaking. That was the man, and what was what you got as the deal. And it seemed there were plenty who would hold their noses and serve under him. And one rather fears that after they got used to the stench, they came to enjoy it too.

I was far from sure he would go until he did. I have just learned that yesterday's Daily Mail had page after page about how he was successfully putting down some small difficulty, and would rule us for many years yet. That, it turns out, was fantasy. But it was what I feared was reality.

The interesting question is how much permanent damage has it done to political standards and discourse. And how much has he corrupted all the people who served under him and supported him until they didn't, to think that is now how you can behave in politics in Britain.

Naah, 'cos then the greedy c.nt and that grasping bitch get a free party. Make the f.ckers pay through the nose for a place at the last minute.
Or charge them £150k (or one treehouse in Johnson language) for the use as you described, on condition that members of the public are allowed to form a guard of dishonour for the couple and their guests & won't be searched for rotten tomatoes
Oh please, please, please, let this happen. I'd happily ignore my foot pain to walk the not very many miles over there with a backpack full of squishy tomatoes. And the bagkitten would love it so much.

Since the start of the month Labour have been between 9 and 14% ahead - clicky

But the Tories will see an improvement after they pick a new leader.

Yes, thanks. Started a new job in Jan, which seems to be going OK. Haven't been doing anything like enough gigging recently, while things are starting to recover post-covid, they're picking up far slower than the comedians wanting to fill those spots. And, frankly, I don't have quite the gig-chasing energy I once did. Getting old...

But I won't fill up space here with personal stuff..

Boris, eh? I've just been having an open and frank discussion with someone on FB who is insistent that what Starmer did was far worse than Boris, that Boris has been the subject of a "msm witch hunt", and that the "backstabbing bastards finally won"

I have to admit, I agreed with that last statement, and think it applies every bit as well to 2019 when this particular lot of backstabbing bastards got into office.

Did I share the "Boris, the dodgiest PM in the West" song on here?
