Whoever wins it looks like the other faction has more than 40 MPs. The Tories haven’t done what they should in the circumstances and coalesce around one candidate.

40 is the number because that’s about what it’ll take to reduce the government’s majority to zero.

Normally MPs can be persuaded to stay loyal because the House of Commons is the greatest club in the world and they want to stay there. But if Labour looks to be on for a landslide Tory backbenchers won’t care.

So look forward to two years of rebellions and knife edge votes.

I think a fair number of Tory MPs are resigned to a period of opposition sooner or later. The more savvy ones are hoping it will be sooner in order to limit the damage to their own prospects and leave the cleaning up to the Labour Party who are going to have to deal with the approaching economic depression - which is looking more and more inevitable as the days pass.
Time for a big fat one.

Johnson will win. It'll go to the members and Johnson won't back out because he's Boris Johnson, and he'll win and the sh.t show will continue with the privileges committee
Are there 100 utter fuckwits amongst the Tory MPs? I hope so.

I think we all know the answer to that.

BBC lists 49 MPs for The Criminal currently:-
Shaun Bailey, MP for West Bromwich West
Scott Benton, MP for Blackpool South
Peter Bone, MP for Wellingborough
Paul Bristow, MP for Peterborough
Bill Cash, MP for Stone
Sir Christopher Chope, MP for Christchurch
Simon Clarke, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland
Brendan Clarke-Smith, MP for Bassetlaw
Leo Docherty, MP for Aldershot
Nadine Dorries, MP for Mid Bedfordshire
Sir James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East
Mark Eastwood, MP for Dewsbury
Ben Everitt, MP for Milton Keynes North
Michael Fabricant, MP for Lichfield
James Grundy, MP for Leigh
Jonathan Gullis, MP for Stoke-on-Trent North
Trudy Harrison, MP for Copeland
Chris Heaton-Harris, MP for Daventry
Antony Higginbotham, MP for Burnley
Philip Hollobone, MP for Kettering
Jane Hunt, MP for Loughborough
Andrea Jenkyns, MP for Morley and Outwood
Caroline Johnson, MP for Sleaford and North Hykeham
Gareth Johnson, MP for Dartford
Edward Leigh, MP for Gainsborough
Ian Levy, MP for Blyth Valley
Marco Longhi, MP for Dudley North
Karl McCartney, MP for Lincoln
Stephen McPartland, MP for Stevenage
Amanda Milling, MP for Cannock Chase
David Morris, MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale
Jill Mortimer, MP for Hartlepool
Holly Mumby-Croft, MP for Scunthorpe
Sheryll Murray, MP for South East Cornwall
Lia Nici, MP for Great Grimsby
Matthew Offord, MP for Hendon
Priti Patel, MP for Witham
Mark Pritchard, MP for The Wrekin
Tom Pursglove, MP for Corby
Jacob Rees-Mogg, MP for North East Somerset
Andrew Rosindell, MP for Romford
Alok Sharma, MP for Reading West
Greg Smith, MP for Buckingham
Henry Smith, MP for Crawley
Andrew Stephenson, MP for Pendle
Jane Stevenson, MP for Wolverhampton North East
Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-Upon-Tweed
Shailesh Vara, MP for North West Cambridgeshire
Ben Wallace, MP for Wyre and Preston North
I think Wallace is the only one listed there who you wouldn’t instantly put in the “f.ckwit” column and AFAIK his support amounts to little more than a vague hint of “leaning towards Johnson” presumably on the back of promises to retain him as Defence Minister, raise defence spending to 3% and continue to fully back the Ukrainians so that’s hardly a statement of unqualified, full-throated support.

Sir Christopher Chope
Credible suggestions the MP for Christchurch will be made Minister for Upskirting under a new Johnson administration have yet to be formally denied*.

The lord of chaos and destruction wants to lead them again. I’d be all for it if it didn’t also mean the country will sink further along with the tories.

The thing is, would he really destroy the country quicker than the alternatives? As opposed to destroying the Tory party quicker?

Sunak is more competent. But Johnson getting suspended from Parliament and then facing a recall petition might actually force a general election

I think the Tories are expecting a grateful nation when Johnson's not the leader. I hope they're disappointed.

Sunak is a terrible candidate. A billionaire during economic agony? A tax dodger? A non-white leader?

But more popular than Johnson.

125 - 53 - 23 per BBC.

118 - 56 - 23 per Sky News.

I'm not sure what Sunak is waiting for. Mordone is done. Johnson is struggling.

Just declare you've got 180 supporters, >50%. Announce you've invited Boris to be a Special Envoy on Ukraine and he is considering the offer. Get the Sunday paper headlines and the final rush of bandwagon jumpers.

Guido Fawkes has it at 131 - 74 - 27 including various Tory officials who need to remain publicly neutral.

I still remember, all this time later, that incident where Guido tweeted that the outrage at Truss becoming PM was because all the lefty socialists were scared of her might and power

No, I really don't want a sinophile* and reportedly softest front-bencher when it comes to Russia in number 10.

Mind you, I don't want any of the f.ckers in number 10.

I suspect that Staines, as a corrupt slippery far right Tory Brexiteer, understands corrupt slippery far right Tory Brexiteers better than some of us.
