Hardly unending, considering the famous competition between Liz Truss and the lettuce. I don't know if the lettuce has a hidden advantage, but it's currently a head.

Neither's a little gem.

She looked bad to begin with, but then it turned out there was even worse lurking beneath the surface, much like an iceberg.

"Unending"? Looking less and less true.
Why, is she dying?

View from the US
Economists and political commentators worldwide have concluded that the government has a road map but doesn’t know how to drive.

“This is a government which is driven by ideology. It wants to cut taxes but is incoherent and basically doesn’t know what it’s doing,” Portes said. Citibank described the move as a “huge, unfunded gamble for the U.K. economy.”

That has led markets to factor in what some economists call a “moron risk premium” on their investments—the expectation of higher returns for being willing to hold the debts of a blundering government.

The FT has tried to quantify the MRP. Don't think this is paywalled.

Spiked up to 2%, but BoE and Hunt brought it down to only 1%.

So who was expecting the death of the Queen to be the highpoint of Truss's PMship?

I'm assuming when she does finally go and she is desperately looking round for some sort of legacy she'll be referencing Brenda snuffing it on average 4 times a minute.

I reckon she just left early to avoid the rush this winter.

Newsnight tonight seemed a perfect reflection of the state of the country.

As part of the Sunderland thing the BBC did tonight it was a panel of Sunderland 20-somethings who gave their opinions and experiences of living through the Trussterfuck.

They represented a range of backgrounds but one after another they gave similar stories of struggling, of worry, of anger at the chaos in Westminster, of concern that the patients, the clients, the students, they work with everyday were doing worse than even them.

None had a single positive word to say about the current situation even when the presenter had to start citing the NI cut or the energy cap in a desperate attempt to manufacture some sort of spurious "balance" against an almost-solid wall of unified disapproval.

With two exceptions. On the far-right of the audience (obviously) were two sweaty weirdos in suits who, as it happens, were the only people all night who admitted being members of a political party, Conservative natch.

The first was of the opinion that everything was going swimmingly and Truss just needed a bit more time to come good, with zero acknowledgment of anything the people around them had said. We'll call him the Moron Tendency.

The second one simply dismissed everyone's concerns as being irrelevant. The only thing that mattered, and the only thing the public apparently cared about (despite all the evidence of the evening) was the "highly-popular" and "brilliant" policy of paying Rwanda hundreds of millions of pounds on the off-chance we might be able to dump some unwanted brown people there eventually. Also Brexit!!! Let's stick him in the Racist Tendency.

And that was it. As the credits rolled the Moron palled up with the Racist, both with big smiles on their faces, as the rest of the audience looked on with disgust as they pondered whether to risk putting the heating on tonight and whether that expired pack of ham in the fridge would last another day. Britain in microcosm.

That's most unfair. Maybe he's pleased about the Rwanda payments because they partly make up for cuts to international aid. ;)

Latest news on Truss vs the Daily Star's lettuce: Truss is revealed to be a romainer at heart, while most of her party vote leaf.

If she lasts out today she'll have beaten the length of time David Blaine spent in a glass box above London

I'm off to the pub for a lunchtime pint. Does anyone want to bet on her still being PM by the time I leave?
It first was a rumour dismissed as a lie, but then came the evidence none could deny:

Announcement in 5 mins. Lectern outside No 10.

It's absolutely pissing down here which would be appropriate for her last farewell. 8-)
