ETA Trump just claimed he had much more money than the bond but wanted to use it for his campaign. He also claimed that Mar a Lago is worth up to 1.8 billion dollars not 18 million.

Hmm, so he's saying he lied to the appeals court? I'm sure that will help his appeal.
Also, a value of $1.80 fits within "up to 1.8 billion dollars".

It's staggering though isn't it... Courts seem to be granting him every leeway possible. I don't know why, given he's still decrying his treatment as unfair (when in reality it's the opposite).

One suggestion by George Conway is that they’ve let him do the lower bond amount because they can at least guarantee having some of the money in the event he loses without having to track down assets all over the place.
I’ve seen it suggested by others that the reduced amount may be a sign that the appeals court are considering reducing the penalties but otherwise rejecting the appeal
I’ve decided I should be on the pardon list if that’s still in the works

The penalties are a direct calculation of the market value cost of the loans that he fraudulently obtained - it's a judgement of fact, which means that it'll be really hard to change them on appeal.
I suspect that the reason for reducing the bond to an amount a bit less than the bond he obtained in the Carroll case is a straight access to due process reasoning.
The potential grounds for appeal are basically "throw out this commonly used law", so it's pretty unlikely to go anywhere.

I wonder if he’s right that she won’t be able to avoid discovery
Ryan thinks that the discovery process, in which both sides would have to provide information pertinent to the case to the other side, including private communications like text messages between Lake and others, is exactly why she and her lawyers chose to default.
“They’re trying to avoid their duty of disclosure to Richer,” he said, adding that he believes they were doing it “unartfully.”
Ryan predicted that Lake and her lawyers will be sanctioned for their actions, and that Lake will likely be ordered to participate in the discovery and disclosure process even with a default judgment.

ETA 5/8/20: I've been advised that the result was correct, it was the initial interpretation that needed to be withdrawn

Likely because it's easily to win a civil claim than a criminal one.

Apparently Letitia James is really querying the bond that Trump got from the insurance company run by the second hand car dealer sup prime guy as it doesn’t look like they don’t have the money any more than Donald does
