So all you doomsters were saying that voting for Brexit would mean the collapse of the economy, planes being grounded, medicines being rationed, food shortages, supervolcanoes, companies moving overseas, queues on the motorways, financial services ending, ports being gridlocked, and the end of civilisation as we know it. And of course it was fine. But you remoaners just whined, "well we haven't actually declared Article 50 yet", and said that when we did, it would mean the collapse of the economy, planes being grounded, medicines being rationed, food shortages, supervolcanoes, companies moving overseas, queues on the motorways, financial services ending, ports being gridlocked, and the end of civilisation as we know it. And of course it was fine. But you remoaners just whined, "well we haven't actually left yet", and said that when we did, it would mean the collapse of the economy, planes being grounded, medicines being rationed, food shortages, supervolcanoes, companies moving overseas, queues on the motorways, financial services ending, ports being gridlocked, and the end of civilisation as we know it. And look, now we've left, and it's fine -- nothing bad has happened and everyone is suffused with the glow of fresh sovereignty and freedom.

Still, as a gammon said up the pub last night 'thank god we can go back to buying stuff in pounds and ounces now'.

I'm not forgiving or forgetting. f.ck 'em. When a leave voter get chucked out of their jobs because their business has shut down or relocated. f.ck 'em. When a leave voting farmer goes under because they've lost their subsidy and cheap US chicken/pork/beef under cuts them. f.ck 'em. When NICE says a leave voter can't have a drug because our US trade deal inflated its price. f.ck 'em.

f.ck 'em all.

Sadly the JRMs of Brexit have already moved their money offshore or are in the process of, they won't be f.cked.

The town where I was born, and the city in which my family now lives, voted Leave and went blue in the election just now (Scunthorpe in particular had been labour for like forever). So yeah, f.ck 'em. Especially members of my family who came to England poor but now have more money than they really know what to do with who voted Leave and tory to f.ck anyone else in the position they used to be in. I hope it f.cks up their ability to have a f.cking holiday every two months and maybe their small business will suffer and they'll have to drive a slightly smaller Jaguar and maybe not flip their house quite so often.

What I want to know is what does unite the country mean?

Is the UK not a united kingdom of countries?

Boris has declared full customs checks on goods coming in from the EU by January 2021.

Things that many Brexiteers are going to get a bit of a surprise about, even after the end of the transition period:
- UK weights and measures legislation (introduced by the Tory government in mid-1990s and condemned by some of the Tory MPs who voted for it as "creeping European socialist domination" when it finally took effect under the subsequent Labour government at the end of a long transition period) still mandates metric measures for everything except for milk (why??), draught beer, and road signs.
- UK still in Eurovision song contest (and presumably not doing any better).
- UK residents still able to buy Euromillions lottery tickets (actually, I suspect quite a few Leave voters checked that would be the case before voting).
- UK still in European Commission on Yooman Rights and subject to decisions of the European Court of Yooman Rights.
- UK still in European Space Agency.
- UK still in European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

What else?

Wow. Got a link? The whole point of the alleged "survivability" of No Deal was that it would only be the evil French imposing customs checks, with everything continuing to come into the UK on trust. I guess it's good news for Portakabin suppliers in Kent.

It's just part of his "strategy" of extreme positions as bargaining chip in negotiations. Don't pay it any heed.

That's my feeling - but he possibly hasn't realised this is more damaging to the UK than the EU.

Here you go: Johnson to impose full customs checks on goods from EU – report

And thus: Gibraltar...

Seems every Brexiter tw.t hadn’t paid any attention to that particular thorny issue.

I’m getting deja-vu again.

Presumably Johnson will soon pledge to give the EU “the fight of the Summer”, with “blood-red lines” that “no UK government could ever accept breaching”. That’s always worked out so well for us.

If you wish to skip to the humiliating climb-down please turn to the posts about 3 hours after the first negotiation starts.

I like the term "blue tape" and I want it to get established. The imposition of bureaucracy and rules on everyday interactions with our EU neighbours.

It's one of the ironies - Conservatives always moan about red tape and pretend getting rid of it is a miracle answer to everything , and now they are deliberately inflicting blue tape on companies.

It would take a heart of stone not to laugh*. I can't believe that Foster, NI's answer to Chris Grayling, is actually in charge there.

The EU negotiating directives have been published.

It'll be interesting to see what the UK publishes in advance.
