I don’t think that word means what they think it does.
Fr’instance irony would be a political movement adamant they are motivated by the “restoration of parliamentary sovereignty” fighting tooth-and-nail any attempt to assert the supremacy of parliament’s sovereignty and then screaming treason when the courts uphold parliamentary sovereignty.
Still you can’t expect normal members of the public to fully understand such esoteric concepts of the British constitution vis-a-vis the EU ... what’s that you say ... MEP? Oh.

Ah, the old duty free limits have returned/are to be returning (oh god, what tense?). Weirdly nostalgic and not in a good way.

I've got a reply from our potted plant MP, well an automated one from one of her team informing me that they cannot possibly reply unless I furnish them with my full name, address and phone number - because of constituencies or something. As I have written before I obviously did include all 3 e-mail addresses, two phone numbers and even my fax number (get with it kids).
Simple question really. Is she willing to break the law?

The constituencies thing is relevant. An MP shouldn’t answer correspondence from someone else’s constituency. So it’s not unreasonable for them to ask for that information first.

No, I get the constituency thing. It's just that they seem to use it as a delaying tactic every time I write - hence the exhaustive list of addresses. And besides, she knows of me as I was one of the first people to bring her a problem when she was first elected (due to child being stuck abroad) and brought it up last time I wrote.

Well...only your phone number could make it clear where you live if it's a landline, and assuming the area code doesn't overlap with any constituency boundaries, and you could have moved since you last wrote (again just the phone number providing a link if it's a landline).
Not sure why they could insist they need a phone number though.
ETA Emily Thornberry had an email auto reply saying you had to provide that info to get a response, which seems slightly more efficient. Except she never really bothered to reply anyway.

To be fair, the allowances for alcohol seem to be a bit higher than pre-1992. IIRC it was 1 or 2 litres of spirits, which could be replaced with 2 or 4 of sparkling wine. The new 9 litres of sparkling wine is two 6-bottle cases of 75cl bottles. Obviously less than the current situation, but it seems to have been designed with an acknowledgement that people would be even more unhappy with the old numbers. For tobacco it seems to be back to pre-1992 levels; I imagine increasing that will be a key part of the next Brexit Party manifesto.
