Pro Democracy Protests

Post by Matatouille » Wed Feb 05, 2020 1:10 pm

I was going to make this thread about the recent Hong Kong protests, but then figured a more general thread might be better since there are usually such things taking place somewhere in the world - soon perhaps in the UK too once Boris's soon to be announced Emergency Powers Act enters its 3rd year.

Anyway, to Hong Kong. I just realised that I haven't hear about them for several weeks. Has the Corona Virus succeeded where the Hong Kong and Chinese governments could not? Or are they waiting to reemerge once the current virus threat has been contained, if they have not lost momentum?

I've not found much journalism on the issue lately, and what I have found seems to indicate that protests such as they are, are now more directed towards closing the border with mainland China in light of the virus rather than demanding greater democratic representation.

EDITED to change the title since I mentioned the change of intent for the thread, but forgot to update the title accordingly.
