Freelancers and declared earnings
Re: Freelancers and declared earnings
I'm also not at all sympathetic to the self employed people raging on social media about suddenly having to pay tax.
Re: Freelancers and declared earnings
The more I see of it, the more I see it cutting in one direction only, and in a way which is inhumane.plodder wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 9:44 amI agree with that, to a certain extent. The flexibility offered by zero-hours contracts cuts both ways, and probably allows employers to pay for more hours per week (in total) than under traditional arrangements. However also agree that it's open to misuse and I feel should only be available if certain criteria apply.
Re: Freelancers and declared earnings
I think it's reasonable that companies that move revenue offshore to avoid corporation taxes should not be eligible for unconditional government grants.

Re: Freelancers and declared earnings
The ones I’m not feeling sympathetic towards are the ones moaning that they won’t get anything because they earned just over the 50k cutoff.
[this is basically the position I’m in and it seems to me that it is an appropriate cutoff, we ought to be able to cope for a while]
Re: Freelancers and declared earnings
That’s a good sentiment but really complicated to assess and enforce, especially when the offshore specialists are also the ones with the best “don’t need shops” offering. We kinda need amazon right now.
Re: Freelancers and declared earnings
So they don't need support

Well, that's also complicated to assess!
