That's about right ime. People here still mask up outdoors in town, even though it's not mandatory. the initial lockdown was hard and long but I think there is a strong sense of social responsibility here.
ddb has flights booked to the UK and back later this month. She's not sure she wants to go.

Switzerland has the highest number of people in intensive care (per million population) in some suitably defined subset of Europe.
They're at 34. 8 per million. France is apparently similar, but Austria is 12.5 per million, Germany 11.5, Italy 8.5. Spain must have come down I suppose.

I suspect that in these kinds of comparisons, whatever substantial differences there may actually be are often amplified by different levels of language comprehension and media consumption.

Turns out the Brazilian police can work out that you might have been in the UK in the past fortnight if you happened to have been playing for Premier League teams.

I'm sure they'd have been less competent if the players weren't Argentinian.

Nearly a third of people arriving in England and Northern Ireland as the coronavirus Delta variant took off may have broken quarantine rules.
...although we of course have no actual idea, and it's another one of those binary qualitative outcomes which may hide various degrees of quantitative difference from "not so bad" to "stupid".

Frau HS and I are trying to work out what we need to do to get to Germany for Christmas this year.
The UK Govt website says that travel between the two countries is allowed for fully vaccinated people - with no restrictions on arrival.
The German websites say that only certain people can travel from the UK to Germany - one is German citizens and family members, so that's good for us - but in different places on the German websites we've visited (official embassy and Govt websites - which I suppose could be down to local restrictions put in place) it states a need to isolate for 5 or 10 days (depending which website you read), which would put the kibosh on any Christmas visits.
Has anyone had any real-world experience here?
We're both fully vaccinated...

Chile will open its borders to vaccinated international travellers Oct 1.
Negative covid test, and a requirement to quarantine for five days.
Foreign visitors will also need to complete a medical questionnaire, purchase travel insurance with a minimum coverage of $30,000, and keep in touch with government officials for 14 days. Travelers will not have to quarantine in government-sanctioned facilities, but a spokesperson for the Chilean tourism officials told Travel + Leisure that visitors will need to share the address at which they'll be isolating.

Germany accepts UK vaccinations, no problem. Christmas is still a way off, but I'd be surprised if this changed.

There may be some sites that haven't been updated since May-June when Germany was slapping quarantine on UK visitors because of delta, but that's long since over.
In fact by Christmas you will probably be able to get a gen-u-wine EU Digital Covid Certificate from the NHS, although it will presumably by rebranded as a Global Sovrintee Certificate by the UK government.

Our experience coming to the end of our stay in Greece:
LFT test two days before returning- all very official at first sight, as you have to upload a photo of the test strip alongside your passport photo page...... then I realised there was nothing on the strip to identify it. We could have used the same one for a number of photos, and they couldn't tell. Being of a nervous disposition I'd taken another test set with us, and they have a QR code on the test which identifies you and can only be updated once.
Trip home - Jet2 staff checked we had passenger locator forms at check in. Arrived at Manchester with PLFs, test certificates and vaccine certificates as required, all carefully set up on the tablet . No-one asked to see them. Passport checks then straight off to baggage claim

My mum flew back from Slovakia (to England) a few days ago. She completely messed up the PLF with my cousin's help but at the airport she got help doing it properly. And of course on the English side nobody asked for it.

Chile plans to drop its 5 day quarantine for fully vaccinated international travellers on Nov 1. I feel this is a bad move as countries have been burned when they allow infected travellers to enter. Five days is not so long and is a small penalty to pay for protecting the populace.
Vaccinated travelers will need to take a COVID-19 PCR test 72 hours prior to traveling to Chile and complete an online “Travelers’ Affidavit” form (which asks for travelers’ contact information, medical history, and previous travel history) within 48 hours of travel. In order to bypass the otherwise mandatory five-day quarantine, they will then need to take another COVID-19 PCR after arriving in Chile and isolate until a negative result is procured. Travelers will need to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination upon arrival, which they should upload prior to travel through the Chilean Ministry of Health’s online Mobility Pass.
Also required is proof of travel insurance to cover any COVID-19–related medical expenses with a minimum coverage of $30,000 for healthcare. International travelers must fly into Santiago, Iquique, or Antofagasta.

PCR 2 day after returning to UK tests also negative. Would anyone like to see the results?
This whole system seems to be based on trusting people to do the right thing, which is nice but scary
