There were anti-mask leagues in 1919 too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Mask ... _Francisco
it has been suggested that the anti-mask league protests were politically motivated. The debate was heated. Some objections to the ordinance were based on questions of scientific data while others considered the requirement to infringe on civil liberties.
Plus ca change.Or 100 years, clearly not enough time for evolution to work.

So these anti-maskers are calling masks "face nappies".

Yes - that's right - they are to prevent potentially infectious sh*t from spraying from a bodily orifice onto other people.

Do they complain about having to wipe their noses with "face toilet paper"?

I reckon we can all find a common ground. Let the antimaskers go mask free on the understanding anybody serving them food in a restaurant is under no obligation to wash their hands after going to the bog because freedom.

Everyone's a winner and I imagine it'll cease being an issue faster than you can say Clostridioides difficile*

I went to Screwfix this morning and they have got the right idea. Only doing click and collect at the local branch and there is a big warning on the order to bring a face covering. Got there (with my mask) was asked (pleasantly) if I had something, said yes and went in. Someone just behind didn't have one and was given a cheapo disposable from a huge box near the door, which was taken off him and binned as he left. Cost to Screwfix? Negligible.

Someone on FB is ranting about masks and how they're not doing any good in Spain - what's the suspected cause in Spain?

Jonathan Pie’s latest video is a rant about masks.

Cue lots of confused alt-right snowflakes BTL angry and upset that somebody can be both for freedom of speech and not spreading deadly viruses.

I watched that last night. It was filmed opposite a little supermarket. Most people going in and out were wearing masks, but about halfway through a bloke walks up, clocks the camera across the road, stops, looks at the shop, looks at the camera, looks at the shop, mills about a bit, and buggers off. And I thought, huh, wonder if the presence of a TV camera influences mask wearing, that's an interesting psychological experiment, someone should try that....

Of course, maybe he'd just forgotten his wallet or something.

Unfortunately, the unpleasantness of pissing in your own trousers will just fit with the anti-mask brigade's belief that masks are bad because they make you inhale your own breath.

This is where I make my traditional remark that Delingpole’s only decent work was for Smash Hits.
Haven’t seen any anti-maskers as such, but in Sainsbury’s the other day, there was a woman wearing a sort of patterned but still looked disposable mask, with something written in capitals in blue biro across the front. The side I could see said NOT MY but I’ve no idea what the other side said, since I only saw half her face. I’m guessing it said CHOICE, but I didn’t think peering at her face and asking for a closer look would have gone well....

The rules of anti-maskers are:
1. We don't need to wear masks, because there are hardly any cases.
2. If there are more cases, that proves that wearing masks doesn't work.

Of course, we can't actually tell how much good they are doing. We can't, formally, know if the uptick of cases in Spain would have been even worse if people hadn't been wearing masks. We can just use our common sense and try not to be pathetic childish c.nts. (Well, obviously James Delingpole and Toby Young can't manage the latter, but we knew that anyway.)

Well yes, but that's just a type of logic that can easily be flipped round the other way. I was curious what we knew about the reason why it has increased in those parts of Spain in particular.

Of course he is. Sigh. I’ve long loved Lewis and had a reasonable sized crush on James Hathaway. Finding out LF was a tw.t of ocean-going, gold star proportions was one of last year’s little disappointments for me.
I took kid A for a tooth filling yesterday, the dentist and dental nurse were in more PPE than I’ve ever seen and rightly so. They were amazingly gentle and encouraging, so I’d say the early evidence is in favour of masks not being dehumanising.
