They're currently talking about how effective both vaccine are after a single dose.

Why do I get a strong feeling they're going to switch to a single dose strategy?
Even AstraZeneca's own paper showed that the vaccine stopped being effective eventually so I look forward to journalists tweeting about results we can't see which contradict that.

JVT has just reiterated the need for a second dose for it to be effective, so hopefully they'll stick to it!

Wife and I are group 10 (early 40's) and have been invited for vaccinations 10 days from now...

I was surprised we got the call... i'm more than half expecting it will be cancelled as a mistake.

Just came here to post the very same.

Why am I not surprised...
Is it because the UK's strategy of keeping all its domestically produced vaccines to itself while importing from the EU at the same time has been rumbled?
Ah, you've been getting them from India.

So this is either a lie, or it means the UK has a big stash of vaccine doses and the rollout isn't limited by supply.

"The Serum Institute of India producing a billion doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine this year, it truly is partnership that we can be proud of."
Customer & manufacturer is a pretty niche definition of partnership.

No, they're just not going to make any appointments.

Round here at least, GPs are waiting until they are told how many vaccines they're getting and on what days, then opening up that many slots for booking - usually a max of 10 days ahead. So they're simply not booking appointments that they haven't already got vaccines ready to be delivered for. So there won't be cancelled appointments, there won't be appointments full stop.

I think the partnership he meant was Oxford/AZ/SII and was saying "we" to take credit for the Oxford vaccine as it was developed in Britain.

Possibly, though with a vainglorious halfwit like him, it's hard to know what his words mean, other than "we're the best, rah rah rah, give us all the credit"

There was also “huge frustration” among family doctors running GP-led vaccination sites and bosses of hospitals managing mass vaccination centres that ministers were wrongly trying to claim credit for the success of the programme.

Not just doctors frustrated with the government's credit-grabbing.

Plus it really boils my piss that the media don't call them on it.

Well - not a fan of the government but the mass vaccination centres do seem to have been a success.

I know of a number of cases where people to be vaccinated as part of Group 6 were able to book through the national system and get the jab at a mass vaccination centre before their GP got round to inviting them to a GP led vaccination centre. Plus people booking via the national system get to book both 1st and 2nd jab appointments. Via the GP system you are left waiting for a date for the 2nd.

Maybe it's because the national centres had earlier and better vaccine supplies?

I think it's an area by area thing. Those locally under the GP system and where my mum lives have both been given their second appointment when attending their first.

Blackcountrygirl and I had our second doses of the Pfizer vaccine this morning. Should be at maximum protection when gyms (hurrah), retail and Blackcountrygirl's hairdresser open.

With 9.1 million doses, the U.K. was the largest recipient of EU vaccine exports as of March 9

Well, hardly just to one country, but yes it’s fairly obvious both that the U.K. is benefiting massively and that the benefit would be diluted when spread across a much larger population. I’m pretty sure that if the Americans were benefiting this much at the expense of the r.o.w. then we’d all be upset about it, just as we were when they were trying to bagsy all the PPE.

America is sitting on 30 million doses of AZ, which has not been approved for use in the US. No vaccines have been exported from the USA.
The EU would totally be within their rights to block vaccine exports until a significant portion of the populace is vaccinated. Its not like they are going to impoverished third world nations.
