To stop community transmission you need lockdowns as the Chinese are proving in Shanghai.
Again, again…that’s because so many Chinese folk aren’t vaccinated. And if they are it doesn’t help that Sinovax is shite.
Sinovax is perfectly fine, the Chinese bio-medical industry is very innovative and dynamic. The problem is for some reason and unlike the UK they didn't prioritize vaccinating their older vulnerable population.
The actual death rate from Covid in China is one of the lowest in the world, it really is quite an achievement.

It is not that good really. China has more than 5,000 deaths from 220,000 infections for a CFR of more than 2%. This is twice the rate of the US with its dysfunctional medical system.

Keeping cases down only helps if you can keep cases down in perpetuity. The lockdowns in China are clearly not effective at eliminating COVID-19. There also doesn't seem to be an endgame. Omicron significantly changed the rules. COVID-19 will break out again and again in China, draconian lockdowns cannot be the response to every breakout of COVID-19.
Here grows much rhubarb.
