Gigs in covid times
Re: Gigs in covid times
Still no reported contagion at the event I attended.
I noticed the European Balboa Festival has just been announced for December in Toulouse.

Re: Gigs in covid times
It's currently 50%, and they're thinking about 80% (or 65% for sporting events).
Despite being the lowest Monday new cases number since July there was pessimism on the news that this would be allowed; however, in mid October work-from-home won't be allowed anymore so it's like f.ck you it's safe to get back to work motherf.cker but no it's still too dangerous to go out afterwards.

Re: Gigs in covid times
Oh and there was apparently someone trying to get into the lesson last night with a non-working Green Pass. Not sure if it was fake or just expired... "No vax….forgot to do the test. Started complaining that it costs a lot"
Yeah the vaccine is free, muppet.

I haven’t been in this subforum for a while but I had a ticket for Nubiyan Twist the other day and sacked it off because it didn’t feel at all like a wise thing to do.
Although I didn’t expect that by now I would be waiting for a PCR result having possibly got it not at a gig but off the other members of my family, who have shared it around between them (with no significant ill effects that we can tell, thankfully)

Re: Gigs in covid times
The Italian technical-scientific committee is looking at increasing capacity to 75% in stadiums, 80% to cinemas, theatres and concert halls, and 100% for outdoor events.
But has forgotten about dance halls and discos again.
Waiting a couple of weeks to see the effect of schools reopening isn't a bad idea because last year everything seemed fine at this point but blew up exponentially during October.
Italy has better vaccination coverage than the UK overall but less of it is among older people, who don't care if they die, as compared to young people who don't think they will ever die.
This may help explain Italy's death rate is only about half the UK's despite that the case rate is about 10 times lower (at less than 40/100,000/week).

In this jam which mercifully started being recorded after I'd been in it, Vincenzo dances with Dance Partner starting at about 4:25.

Re: Gigs in covid times
Of course not. But there was a Green Pass requirement and only 50% capacity. Anyone vaccinated is as protected as they're ever going to be and we can't wait for zero covid. Anecdotally it seems like there's not been a covid outbreak but I'm sure some of the other usual autumn viruses were circulating.
And this weekend we're at Collegno Hallowee'n'swing (near Turin) but it's much lower key.

Looks like a super spreader event to me. I hope you don't get sick.shpalman wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 7:56 amOf course not. But there was a Green Pass requirement and only 50% capacity. You need to change your time and date setting, Herainestold.
Go to User Control Panel. Click time zone and change your year from 2020 to 2021.

Re: Gigs in covid times
Two major events have taken place in the UK now with mandatory vaccination and negative test. No known cases spread.

That is encouraging news. I thought you couldn't exclude people in the UK due to vaccination status.
I have some friends who are active in swing dancing who have can celled events because they felt it was unethical to exclude people. I thought it was the law, but maybe it was their individual group.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you people.

At a recent trip to a Manchester theatre, we were asked fo show a vaccine certificate or evidence of a negative test. Not compulsory of course, but then neither is letting people into the theatre. Struck me as a sensible arrangement to keep people pretty safe without causing a fussHerainestold wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 1:52 pmThat is encouraging news. Re: Gigs in covid times
Sitting quietly in the theatre, hopefully fully masked should be safer than exuberant dancing. We know that vaccination is only somewhat protective against infection. We shall have to wait and see which kind of events turn into super spreaders. We are not out of this yet.Trinucleus wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 4:12 pmAt a recent trip to a Manchester theatre, we were asked fo show a vaccine certificate or evidence of a negative test. Re: Gigs in covid times
The rule about discos and dance halls is that masks need to be worn when not dancing (or, I suppose, drinking) which makes no sense to anyone.

Re: Gigs in covid times
Well I haven't heard anything about outbreaks related to Swing'n'Milan, although I'm not sure how I'd hear about it if there were, but at least it hasn't been on the news.Herainestold wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 1:36 pmLooks like a super spreader event to me. Likewise Halowee'n'Swing at Collegno.
I'm not sure what proportion of people are still carrying on with regular testing to maintain a valid Green Pass, as compared to finally getting the vaccine, but those people would be handy coalmine canaries for covid outbreaks. (The increased testing is not enough to explain the increase in cases.)
But what do seem to be superspreader events, are the regular No Green Pass demonstrations in Trieste, which is why their case rate is now 400/100,000/week i.e. just as bad as the UK, and ten times worse than Milan and indeed Lombardy overall. The Friuli-Venezia-Giulia region is now at 150/100,000/week and their hospital occupancy is spiking.
(Ok there are only 16 patients in intensive care, but this is double what it was two weeks ago and the maximum in March this year was just over 80; there are 108 in non-intensive care which is more than double what it was two weeks ago and the maximum in March this year was less than 700; the population of the region is about 1.2 million).
Cases in Italy have been slowly increasing over the past three weeks, but nothing like as bad as what happened last year around this time, and in Lombardy and Italy on average it come through into an obviously increasing death rate yet (we've had less than 0.5/100,000/week in Italy on average for a few weeks). Well, except for FVG where it seems that the death rate has recently increased to roughly 3-4 times that. Of course it's noisy, for such a small region we're looking at single-figure deaths per day.
The increase in cases is probably more connected to the official end of "smart working" (the nonsensical English expression which the Italians use to mean "working from home") and the general change in the weather, than people going out dancing.

It’s now two weeks since a Slow Bal event in the UK, organised by friends of mine and with vaccination and testing mandates.
About 60 people in close proximity. Limited masks use. Mostly older folk. No reported cases.
