SARS-CoV-2 testing
Re: SARS-CoV-2 testing
Classic…
Their new 7-day test and release guidance directly contravenes the guidance on the NHS website.

Re: SARS-CoV-2 testing
That says to not do a PCR test.* The Guardian says you can get the all-clear from a lateral flow test.
* - possibly because the PCR test is sensitive and can also pick up fragments of virus which your immune system has killed and your body is getting rid of.From Wednesday, new guidance will enable the 10-day self-isolation period for vaccinated and unvaccinated people in England who have tested positive for coronavirus to be reduced by three days if they get the all-clear from lateral flow tests.
having that swing is a necessary but not sufficient condition for it meaning a thing

For a long time they've said not to use a PCR within 90 days of an infection, though you can use LFD tests. PCR tests are more sensitive and can pick up traces of previous infections for longer.headshot wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 8:37 amCovid self-isolation cut to seven days with negative test in England
Public health bosses say move for those who test negative on days six and seven will help support essential services
But strangely, my friend who has Covid and was supposed to be isolateing until the 24th just said this:
So should Covid+ people get tested or not??… they told me not to bother doing a PCR or lateral flow for 90 days as the results can be flawed
I thought a negative LFT result was supposed to be indicative of being clear of a current infection.

My avatar was a scientific result that was later found to be 'mistaken' - I rarely claim to be 100% correct
ETA 5/8/20: I've been advised that the result was correct, it was the initial interpretation that needed to be withdrawn
Meta? I'd say so!

Did we never link to Rethinking Covid-19 Test Sensitivity — A Strategy for Containment? It's over a year old now but it's the source of the graph in this tweet even if it doesn't explicitly calibrate its time axis.

It's a bit quicker with Omi though, Shirley?

Re: SARS-CoV-2 testing
Basically the idea of having a PCR from the previous 48-72 hours is a bit useless compared to doing a rapid test right when you need to know.

Which links to a very similar diagram but no papers that I can see

Have you considered stupidity as an explanation

To be fair, if the community pharmacies they're supplying are anything like our local chemist they'll all have been closed for those 4 days too, so there wouldn't have been anywhere open to deliver kits to.shpalman wrote: ↑Mon Jan 03, 2022 6:37 pmUK Covid test distributor receives 2.5m kits, shuts for 4 days
(You could probably make a case for them shutting for a shorter time, but that would require acknowledging we're in some sort of emergency situation. Not sticking your head in the sand & pretending everything is just going to magically turn out fine.....)
