Did anyone else see this? Apparently a sports science study has shown that 84 hotdogs is the maximum number of hotdogs a person could possibly eat in 10 minutes. Here's a click-bait news story doing the rounds: 'Competitive hotdog eaters nearing limit of human performance'.
It is based on this research paper: Modelling the maximal active consumption rate and its plasticity in humans—perspectives from hot dog eating competitions
Usually when something so 'out there' is announced, alarm bells start ringing; but I'm no statistician and it looks like pretty sensible methodology. Am I missing something, or is this one of those (rare) examples of an entertaining science-based news story that is actually grounded in good science?
