This has... implications

From what I gathered on a quick skim of the paper, they're photosynthesizing from light at 7—800 nm and 4—500 nm, just that they're getting these photons (in tiny numbers) from the tail of a Black Body radiation curve which is peaked in the infrared.

Also, the paper is from 2005 so all those implications have already been implicated I assume.

Still nuts mind you

Nuts in an impressive biology way, rather than a complete violation of quantum mechanics and thermodynamics way.

So if life on earth originated in deep sea hydrothermal vents, could this be the original form of photosynthesis, and the evolutionary route to other ways of life?
