Cost of tech

Post by Gfamily » Mon Jun 21, 2021 4:00 pm

In sorting through some papers that had ended up in the attic, I found a pricelist for computer bits from 1995

My avatar was a scientific result that was later found to be 'mistaken' - I rarely claim to be 100% correct
ETA 5/8/20: I've been advised that the result was correct, it was the initial interpretation that needed to be withdrawn
Meta? I'd say so!

Here is a 1988 price list for the Psion Organiser and its accessories.

A 128 KB memory module (EPROM) is more expensive than the cheapest Organiser model, which had just 8K RAM and could not actually handle that 128KB module.

Note the price in the top right corner. I think this is from late '70s or early '80s. A 10TB disk (one million times larger) now costs about one tenth of the price.

$10k in today's dollars apparently. https://twitter.com/glennklockwood/stat ... 2748708864

Twitter warned me that a reply which mentioned CP/M might be offensive.

Reddit says 1981; Pinterest says 1976.

I recall that the big external drives I was using in the mid ‘90s were 72Gb and cost about 5 grand. SCSI, and the adapter cards and cables were a small fortune as well.
