US Lawmakers propose to mandate the impossible
Ohio legislators have introduced a bill that would require doctors to do the impossible when treating ectopic pregnancies

They are not really requiring doctors to do the impossible. They are really preventing doctors from obstructing their fixation with abortion, the prevention of which is so obviously more important that preventing a woman dying in agony.
Just tell 'em I'm broke and don't come round here no more.

Re: US Lawmakers propose to mandate the impossible
Thinking this couldn't possibly be true, I read through the 'conditional' words in the draft bill, as shown in the Hackney e-mail exchange, thinking there was an outcome in which re-implantation did not need to be attempted because it was impossible.
But no, the draft bill mandates the attempt. "If applicable" can only be taken to mean 'in the case of an ectopic pregnancy''.
In a very few cases, both woman and child can survive an undetected ectopic pregnancy (following abdominal implantation, for instance). Having written about this condition, I actually, by complete chance, met such a mother! But it is so improbable and unpredictable that no rational decision making process would allow an ectopic pregnancy to proceed.

Re: US Lawmakers propose to mandate the impossible
There are more than 7000 state legislators. Some fraction of them are bound to be morons. Also:
- Any legislator can introduce a bill. Most don't go anywhere. Most aren't really even intended to go anywhere, they are just signaling something to a constituent group.
- Even if this somehow became state law in Ohio, there is zero chance of it standing up in court unless the Supremes overturned a whole lot of precedent -- which could of course happen, but then there would be a wider problem than just these wackadoodles in Ohio.

How about every time a Republican has a w.nk a doctor is obliged by law to inject the cum back into his balls?
having that swing is a necessary but not sufficient condition for it meaning a thing

Re Bolo, a worrying aspect of all this is that it is part of a wider effort to get the Supreme Court to make abortion a federal crime. Yes there are morons, but there are many of them, and they have a plan.

Re: US Lawmakers propose to mandate the impossible
Sure, but this is a fringe part of that. Pay close attention to the wider effort, but for this bill, just point and laugh.GeenDienst wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2019 10:25 amRe Bolo, a worrying aspect of all this is that it is part of a wider effort to get the Supreme Court to make abortion a federal crime. You'd win in the end; but how long will you spend inside or unable to work?
Re: US Lawmakers propose to mandate the impossible
The bill has been introduced and referred to the Ohio House's Criminal Justice Committee. Neither of its primary sponsors sits on that committee. The committee chair is not a co-sponsor. My guess is that the bill will never even reach the floor for a vote, at least not with this provision still in it.
Re: US Lawmakers propose to mandate the impossible
That's good. I was reading quickly so didn't notice it had only been introduced rather than passed.bolo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 1:17 amThe bill has been introduced and referred to the Ohio House's Criminal Justice Committee. The USA *really* needs to sort out its gerrymandering problem that causes retarded sh.t like this to be introduced

The gerrymandering is advantageous to the Grim Old Party, so it will linger like the unemployed brother-in-law sleeping on the sofa.

As for mandating the impossible remember the promise of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happyness."

Exactly this. They know these ludicrous proposals with get knocked back by other courts, it's just a run for the Supreme Court to try and overturn Roe v Wade. The fact that the bogus legislation is always so f.cking horrifying is because as they do this, they also want to make sure everyone knows they really hate women.GeenDienst wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2019 10:25 amRe Bolo, a worrying aspect of all this is that it is part of a wider effort to get the Supreme Court to make abortion a federal crime. It was a mandate of the people. True, although I prefer "anti-democratic" as a description that works on two levels to describe their current core values.Gawdzilla Sama wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 4:32 pmThe gerrymandering is advantageous to the Grim Old Party, so it will linger like the unemployed brother-in-law sleeping on the sofa.
