Some scientists think...
My avatar was a scientific result that was later found to be 'mistaken' - I rarely claim to be 100% correct
ETA 5/8/20: I've been advised that the result was correct, it was the initial interpretation that needed to be withdrawn
Meta? I'd say so!

Re: Some scientists think...
When I read "Some scientists think", two things tend to come to mind.
One is "It would be good idea if they all did".
The other is "If only a minority them think it, why don't the others? Does it lie in their range of expertise and are they competent?"
The phrase is often, in practice, used to try and persuade you something that is bollocks. The continuation in that twitter thread was a bit of a surprise.

Or a single study which hasn't been replicated on a group of 30 undergrads in a public university in the Midwest.Sciolus wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 5:23 pmIn mice.Holylol wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 3:54 pm"A study says"...IvanV wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 2:31 pmWhen I read "Some scientists think", two things tend to come to mind.

Public universities are far more reputable than the average university in the US.

Re: Some scientists think...
I once drunkenly did something similar with a pool ball (the white, it’s slightly smaller) in the back of a taxi.
The driver who, reluctantly and eventually, came to my rescue was not impressed.
It remains an n=1 so for the sake of scientific rigour I should probably replicate the study at some point.

This place is not a place of honor, no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here, nothing valued is here.
What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us.
This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.

If done in the back of a taxi, we can safely say you're not a Neitzchian Ubermensch.Little waster wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 11:00 pmI once drunkenly did something similar with a pool ball (the white, it’s slightly smaller) in the back of a taxi.
