Home tDCS for depression

Post by bob sterman » Sun Jun 09, 2024 8:23 am

Electric headset for treating depression recommended as widespread treatment after NHS trial
https://news.sky.com/story/electric-hea ... l-13150095

But the paper says...

https://www.scirp.org/journal/paperinfo ... rid=133103
Open-label patient cohort design with no control group. Thirty-one adult patients completed six weeks of Flow treatment.
This is just ludicrous - it would have been so straightforward to have a control version of the device that did not deliver tDCS

I had to look up what it was. Then I was wondering if you would notice if it wasn't delivering tCDS. But Wikipedia comes to my rescue. Typically the devices have a "sham" mode, specifically to act as a control in experiments. So in fact it is just laziness to have done it without control.
