A leap forward for liver transplants

Post by Fishnut » Mon Jan 13, 2020 8:02 pm

The Guardian reports on researched published today in Nature Biotechnology (open access) about a new method of liver storage that allows them to be stored for a week, rather than the single day that is currently possible. It allows injured livers to recover, enabling more livers to be made available for transplant and allowing livers to be transported longer distances. It's still in the experimental stage but has been tried with both pig and human livers with excellent results.
it's okay to say "I don't know"
