Booster vaccination
Re: Booster vaccination
Mr Bagpuss and I have been invited to book ours. Currently the only available dates are a Friday and Saturday where we're out both evenings doing rare fun things that are booked and can't be moved, and we don't want to feel crappy and miss out. It's not that we don't want the boosters, quite the opposite, it's just that that's the one sodding weekend between now and ever that we don't want to be having them.

For the asthmatics
https://www.brit-thoracic.org.uk/covid- ... ith-asthma
This may or may not clarify who does qualify for a booster. It would appear that not all of the group 6 asthmatics qualify. I think the bit about 2 courses of prednisolone in 2 years must be new. Or at least it’s different to the original criteria for deciding between CEV and CV or the whatever the criteria was when they added a load to the CEV/shielding list in February.

Re: Booster vaccination
Thanks for the screen grab headshot. I can't work out if it's changed or if I was looking in a different place with a totally different list of what makes you eligible for a booster. Apparently that one does make me eligible, go figure!
BTW I got a choice of date, time and centre so hopefully your limited window of opportunity shouldn't be too problematic.

Re: Booster vaccination
I looked at the JCVI green book yesterday and it was updated on 29 October...however it's not entirely clear what has been updated. The update for 29 October says (among other things): "updated definitions of clinically vulnerable" but for 16 Septemebr it also says "Clarification of clinical risk groups for children and adults and the use of the clinically extremely vulnerable definition."FairySmall wrote: ↑Wed Nov 10, 2021 9:18 amThanks for the screen grab headshot. So I'm not sure what the difference is between a clarification and an update in this context...but I guess it's more likely that changes were made to broaden it on 29 October, but without seeing the earlier versions it's hard to know what? It's probably archived somewhere but I can't find it atm.

Re: Booster vaccination
The NHS app (or the NHS in general) isn't recording booster shots so I keep getting invites to have one even though I did it last week. Same with the flu jab. It's a waste of resources to be constantly contacting people unecessarily, not to mention annoying.

Re: Booster vaccination
In the NHS app - you can see boosters in the GP record part in the general immunisations list. Seasonal flu jabs too.Tessa K wrote: ↑Wed Nov 10, 2021 12:40 pmThe NHS app (or the NHS in general) isn't recording booster shots so I keep getting invites to have one even though I did it last week. But when you generate a COVID pass for travel - the booster doesn't show.

Re: Booster vaccination
Anyone know about IT problems with it.
Dad is trying to get his third dose which apparently is not a booster as he's immunocompromised, the booster would be his 4th dose.
He has been trying to get it arranged for several weeks now, and it slips through the system.

Re: Booster vaccination
Looks like a common problem: https://www.kidneycareuk.org/news-and-c ... ands-risk/
Following a deluge of calls and emails from patients who were finding it impossible to book a third dose, the Charity conducted a survey and found that of those eligible for the third vaccine, 87% had not had their vaccine (or had not got an appointment scheduled to receive it). Of those who had not had their vaccine yet, over half (51%) had contacted their GP to arrange it and experienced problems trying to do so (the remaining 49% had not contacted anyone about it; some were not even aware they were eligible to a third dose at all). We are pleased to hear that some units & Trusts that have managed to get their transplant patients vaccinated with a third dose but need to see far more of this happening nationally to avoid a postcode lottery where the amount of protection you have depends on which Trust you are with.
NHS England asked us to find out which practices were not able or willing to assist people with a third dose. We have passed the names of over 80 practices to them and each are being sent specific information about the third dose for immunosuppressed people. Thanks to everyone for your emails. We are pleased to let you know that new guidance to enable you to get your third dose of the Covid-19 vaccination has now been issued.
Throughout the pandemic it has been very clear that this group is at very high risk from Covid-19 and on 1st September the Joint Committee for Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) gave its approval of a third dose to improve their immune response. When they have attempted to book this there is a complete lack of understanding of the process from many GPs, kidney doctors or the 119 vaccination booking service, or the IT systems are not in place to support it. [...]
Communication was sent out almost a month ago from NHS England to all GPs, specialists, and vaccination hubs that emphasises the urgency of ensuring heavily immunosuppressed or immunocompromised people have their third dose of the vaccine as soon as possible (and this third dose can be given 8 weeks after the second dose). Yet systems have not been put in place locally, many GPs are insisting it is not their responsibility to help this group, or refer them to the booster programme, a completely separate programme, meant for those in groups one to nine previously prioritised for the first and second doses, to be delivered six months after the second dose.

Some pretty graphs which argue that the current UK decline in hospital admissions is due to the rollout of booster vaccinations: https://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status ... 68197?s=20
If so numbers should keep falling until immunity starts waning again.

Re: Booster vaccination
Hmm.
Oscillation.
During the ups everyone writes articles and twitter threads about how it's rising relentlessly and what it means for Plan B.
During the downs everyone writes articles and twitter threads about how it's falling due to boosters or schools.
Everything he writes appears logical and obviously boosters increase average immunity. The story makes sense as a narrative. But is it anything more than a story? We keep having these little story telling episodes. Football! G7 in Cornwall! Nightclubs! Teenagers!
You could probably spin an alternative story about how the elderly are staying indoors more now following the clock changes and colder weather, digging out some statistic or other.
I find it all pretty dubious. I'd just say hospital rates are falling now because cases started falling two or three weeks ago, death rates are starting to follow - and the fall in cases happened after the rise in cases which was after the fall in cases and the rise in cases before that.

Yes, of course.
But some of us are into the commentary. It helps to bide the time until we work out what is actually happening. And the graphs are pretty.

It's rather reminiscent of those "global warming peaked in 2008" arguments.

The nurse doing one of his blood tests gave him the number of a local vaccination centre and he managed to get in touch and arrange it. The website yesterday said it wasn't going to be there today - but it was.

To me this looks like bumping around at this level equivalent to a pretty bad winter since the summer.
So could be nasty with the flu on top

Some of them have case counts quite a bit above what we are experiencing. The Baltics are going down, but Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway are rising exponentially. These countries all have some level of restrictions which we do not.shpalman wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 9:48 amBoris Johnson urges people to get Covid boosters

In a tsunami it's better to be in the sea.
The area under the curves gives the UK its awful death toll. But it also give the UK its high level of immunity.

tl;dr you've been having this wave since July, it's not like it can get any worse. Only 15,000 people died, who cares.
