A parish priest criticises the vaccine and the government's pandemic response during a homely*
A few of the congregation walked out.
"In life you need to listening to those who have opinions different to your own. In this phase of history, anyone who says something different about the pandemic with respect to everyone else gets called an antivaxxer"
He also didn't want to answer on whether he was vaccinated or not, to anyone who wasn't a medical doctor anyway.

My avatar was a scientific result that was later found to be 'mistaken' - I rarely claim to be 100% correct
ETA 5/8/20: I've been advised that the result was correct, it was the initial interpretation that needed to be withdrawn
Meta? I'd say so!

It seems she only narrowly avoided it. I imagine 'one more strike' and she'll be away.
But her grifting seems to be worth it, she's raked in a fair amount from 'donations' ... and a not inconsiderable amount from public 'Covid recovery' funds.
Time for a big fat one.

Given his team are giving him "vitamin" injections every day, how hard would it be for one of them to accidentally slip him a vaccine or two? If your employment/remuneration depends on the health of one star performer then why risk him permanently losing fitness from long Covid?

Well, they could have done, except that they'd have to behave as if he wasn't vaccinated to keep up the pretence, which means he'd be suspicious if he were somehow allowed to participate in vaccinated-only tournaments.
Unless they're hiding the nature of the "medical exemption"* from him.

The main obstacle is probablythat it would be a criminal offence. And if the person doing it was a medic (presumably they would be, if they're administering other medicines), they would be liable to professional sanctions.

I think a lot of sportspeople's "vitamins" are criminal offences and things that would incur professional sanctions.
What matters is not getting caught.

There are reports Djokovic’s lawyers will challenge the decision.

Too many lawyers might be a bit of a problem in the US, where there are 396* lawyers per 100k pop., and people will sue at the drop of a hat. otoh, too few lawyers might be a bit of a problem in Japan, where there are 24* lawyers per 100k pop., and the gap is filled by yakuza:
https://www.jstor.org/stable/1600326
This Article provides theoretical and empirical support for the claim that organized crime competes with the state to provide property rights enforcement and protection services. Drawing on extensive data from Japan, this Article shows that, like firms in regulated environments everywhere, the structure and activities of organized criminal firms are significantly shaped by state-supplied institutions. Careful observation reveals that in Japan, the activities of organized criminal firms closely track inefficiencies in formal legal structures, including both inefficient substantive laws and a state-induced shortage of legal professionals and other rights-enforcement agents. Thus, organized crime in Japan--and, by extension, in other countries where significant gaps exist between formal property rights structures and state enforcement capacities--is the dark side of private ordering.

Update: the paramedics pleaded with him to let them take him to the hospital. He refused.
He still at home…with 75% blood oxygen.
Turns out it was his Covid-denying, anti-vaxx sons who convinced h not to get vaxxed.
Looks unlikely he’ll make it.
Another update:
Now in hospital as he is unable to refuse. On a ventilator. Unlikely to make it to new year.
What a lovely Christmas these anti-vaxx morons have created for the rest of their family.
Aaaaand…he’s dead.
Died yesterday on a ventilator.
All because him and his sons are f.cking stupid Covid denying anti-vaxxers.
So sorry to hear that.

Tennis Australia apparently sent Djokovic a letter saying he could have a medical exemption to enter Australia. Rumour is this exemption was based on a previous COVID-19 infection, which is not a valid reason for not getting the vaccine in Australia. Tennis Australia apparently sent the same letter to at least 2 other players.
Tennis Australia is not permitted to provide medical exemptions from vaccination. Now this is before the courts, it will all come out and heads are going to roll. Djokovic will not be allowed into Australia and will be deported.
Here grows much rhubarb.

Was it Blunkett who overrode the immigration rules to let rapist Mike Tyson into the UK to make a pile of money by bludgeoning someone about the head?
ETA: Apparently rules were tightened in 2012 and he hasn't been allowed in since, but I'm pretty sure there were protests about him being allowed in in earlier years.

Moving on from vaccines to masks, I am currently not in South Australia on the first trip Mrs P an I have taken across state borders in 2 years. All Australian states now have mask requirements of various sorts for indoor public places. Yesterday early evening as I went back to the hotel for an increased layer of protection from the elements, I got into the lift (the stairs have been roped off as a COVID-19 risk) a family of 5, 4 of whom were not wearing masks, decided they were going to join me. I left the lift and for some unknown reason, one of the family did the same.
This person then decided they needed to interrogate me as to why I did not stay in the lift. I responded that it was because they were not wearing masks. That was absolutely the wrong thing to say. I had to ask the girl behind the hotel desk to call the police before he would stop threatening me.
Needless to say, we are now at a different hotel.
Here grows much rhubarb.
