House prosecution team named.

"The Senate is on trial as well as the president."

- Adam Schiff
- Jerry Nadler
- Zoe Lofgren
- Val Demings
- Hakeem Jeffries
- Sylvia Garcia
- Jason Crow
Would have been interesting to see Justin Amash on that list. It would have made it harder to spin as a partisan hit job.

I wonder how many more document dumps there'll be before then.

BTW, the Government Accountability Office has just ruled that withholding the aid from Ukraine for any reason at all was illegal, so there goes the "no laws were broken" argument. It's not the most serious offence, mind.

Says there's no realistic way to get a Special Prosecutor to investigate the criminal conspiracy as Barr himself is one of the criminals. Which means the next stage after Trump is acquitted would be to impeach Barr.

Or before Trump is acquitted. Just jam the Senate with impeachments - Pompeo seems ripe for one, and if Parnas' interview claims pan out, then Pence is up as well.

According to Fox News logic, there’s no way Trump can have a fair trial if incriminating evidence keeps appearing.

Oh look, Parnas has made a direct link to Nunes, who previously had no knowledge of any discussions with his aide and Parnas about digging dirt. Suddenly his memory is refreshed by phone records...

And who was the senior Republican on the investigation in the House, and didn't recuse himself.

Couldn't possibly be Devin Nunes?

And Romney folds.

Makes 5 times he's mumbled about opposing Trump extremism, then wimping out and meekly doing what he's told.

Mitch is proposing having untelevised hearings at 1am! Wow, there couldn't be anything there he doesn't want the American public to see, could there?

McConnell was always going to control the process, as long as he had the votes. Seems he does, as predicted. Nothing about this was ever about justice, it's only about counting up to 51. This is not a surprise.

The Republicans had this opportunity to get rid of a criminal with dementia who thinks the wheel was invented in the USA.

They declined to take it.

They are going to be regretting this in 6 months, when their guy is missing from the campaign trail and they're trying to defend Senators who will look corrupt, or stupid, or corrupt and stupid.

That's the thing. They can hide impeachment but as Trump deteriorates, it's quite possible that he'll actually admit to it on TV in such a way that even the republicans won't be able to explain it away. Probably whilst expressing contempt for his base.
Have you considered stupidity as an explanation

Sondland confirmed that the answer to lawmakers’ question about whether there had been a quid pro quo conditioning of military aid on Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky’s willingness to initiate investigations into a conspiracy theory about the 2016 election and former vice president Joe Biden, Texas Republican Mike Conaway put his head in his hand and kept it there.

The Republicans, it appeared, had no idea that Sondland – a Trump ally who’d been appointed to be America’s man in Brussels after making a $1m donation to the Trump inaugural committee – was going to throw Trump, Perry, Giuliani, Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the entire Trump team under the proverbial bus.

But Sondland did. Under the bus they went.

“Everyone was in the loop,” he said. “It was no secret.”

I genuinely want to know (and have yet to get an answer from anyone other than "Oh no, that wouldn't happen"), what would happen if he just said "We're not having an election. Too much of a chance of vote rigging by Hillary, and we've done a poll and all Americans want me to stay, so we're not wasting the money on it."

Then what?

Elections are at a state level. In theory some states could hold the election, e.g. California, while others don't.

The electoral college would assemble and elect a president. I think electors from the non-voting states would still be legitimate.
