The completely expected nature of the decision. Well, apart from Romney voting to convict.

And overnight we've heard that the NSA has been withholding evidence about this from Congress, and today that Deutsche Bank can be forced to hand other Trump's financial records to the house.

Basically, the Republicans in the Senate just voted to be severely and repeatedly embarrassed before the 2020 elections (for those of them up for re-election).

It's not embarrassment if neither they nor their voters actually care.

They are up against huge demographic forces.

They did that report after Romney lost in 2012 - which said for the long term they needed to win more support from Hispanics, other minorities, the young etc. Hence the Republican Party annointing Jeb! Bush with his Mexican-born wife. But in 2016 they... er... chose a different approach.

The impeachment hearing will brand them for the next 20 years, in the same way the votes on Iraq War did. There's a huge segment of young voters who not only won't vote Republican now, but swear blind they will never vote Republican in their lives. The Republican power base was eroding anyway, and is now completely destroyed by Trumpism. I don't anticipate Republican Conservativism to ever come back, given the power of the cult.

The acquittal is not embarrassment for now, but history will convict.

I wish I was as confident as you, lpm. I think Trump has a strong chance of winning a second term, not least because everything is gamed in his favour as things stand.

He's got a sizeable chance, maybe 33%. If he's well enough to compete.

In a sane world he would not stand a chance but, I will just leave it there.

Too depressing.

(Also current stock market under Trumpism, as Trump runs the US national debt away, and allows consumer and business debt to multiply)

Although there is the fact that he's declining quite rapidly and it's increasingly obvious - look at how many weird tics and almost spasms he has when speaking now, compared to even last summer.

It's odd the mainstream media does not address the issue. (When it reaches the sh.t BBC coverage is when I'll describe it as having made the mainstream.)

Journalists aren't asking simple questions like "Why does Trump now use the small Air Force 1 steps from the bottom of the plane, instead of the usual long staircase from the regular doorway?" Or "Why does he sniff so much?" "Why does he do a combined spasm and slurring when he speaks, followed immediately by his practiced cover-up" (he says "Look, look" or "Wait, wait" followed by a stock phrase that uses the word "Incredible")?

It's worth watching an entire speech sometimes, to get a sense of how mad the rambles have become. You will see the spasms and note his instinctive cover-ups, and keep count of the word "Incredible". He goes off topic, then sideways again, until there's a chain of 7-8 side tracks from his original topic that he's now forgotten all about - leading to repetition of exactly the same stock phrases and rants a few minutes later. Sometimes he's high as a kite, completely elated. Others it's a depressed monotone.

Pelosi keeps trying to signal, with comments like him seeming sedated at State of the Union, but the media doesn't engage. At some point somebody will make a direct accusation. There must be dozens of servants in the White House - treated like sh.t by Trump - who know he wears the body brace and has to be positioned in a seat before cameras are allowed in.

A fall and a broken hip can kill people of his age and physique - ending their active lives, putting them into nursing and never recovering fully. If his balance is bad as rumoured he needs to be using a zimmer frame. He's got that "private doctor syndrome" thing that killed Michael Jackson - his doctors aren't doing what's best for him, they are doing what's beneficial to themselves.

A prime example of his stream of consciousness side track was when he said the wheel was invented in the US.

You could see him starting on US inventions, and then his mind slipped to inventions.

I mean, really, if there’s anyone who should be fired then it’s his photographer.

Can't blame him for a bit of a purge tbh. I thought he played golf all the time, how is he so pasty?

(This isn't an official White House photographer, it's a photographer who covers the White House)

I think what happened is he has two sorts of make up. He does a layer of white concealer, then plasters on the orange stuff. Then a professional comes along and does the best he/she can, blending it in under the hair. Over the next couple of hours, the professional make up has rubbed off, but the industrial paint he himself uses is still there.

He simultaneously seems bloated and haggard, which shouldn't seem possible. He still has his plump face, all rounded and wobbly. But it's also deeply furrowed and drawn.

Or this is not normal behaviour during the national anthem

And the makeup - either he has handlers doing it, or he does it himself. Either way, he presumably sees himself in the mirror and thinks it's fine.

Surely this is a hoax? There were similar claims about Trump watching shark programmes on telly incessantly which turned out to be a hoax a couple of years back.

Is that any more bizarre than the video in this link?
