Well now we're just going to create a race of Llamamen. And then where will we be? Earwormed by that Steve Wright in the Afternoon jingle off of the '90s:

"Llamaman, llamaman
Does whatever a llama can
He can bleat, he can trot
Has whatever a llama's got..."

Camelid family domain antibodies are a well known thing in the biotech world. But we don't need to bleed millions of llamas - gene sequencing and GMP recombinant protein manufacture are mature technologies.

Alpaca your coat, it’s time for you to go!
This place is not a place of honor, no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here, nothing valued is here.
What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us.
This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.

As long as its llamas they are going to bleed and not lamas.

The one L lama, he's a priest
The two L llama, he's a beast
And I will bet my silk pyjama
There isn't any three L lllama.

The original pronunciation of the two L llama would be more faithfully rendered as 'yama' in English, as it comes from a Quechuan word via Spanish (and AIUI the two languages roughly share spelling conventions).

So we could solve the problem by de-Anglicising the pronunciation or fixing the spelling.

Alternatively, the scientific name is Lama glama, so we could use Lama (with appropriate capitalization), as the priestly kind is only capitalised when part of a title.

That said, context generally provides valuable clues as to the type of llama/lama/Lama being discussed. I've rarely been confused.
We have the right to a clean, healthy, sustainable environment.

This is my favourite image in a paper - surprised llama vs giant syringe

Unfortunately I can't seem to view the original images to see it in all it's glory. It had me in stitches when I was reading the paper (yes I know it's sad).

Oooo, tracked it down - how can I upload images?

Right. I am now going to invent a llama and turkey dish, perhaps some kind of turkey escalope with llama milk cheese, purely so it can be called lama glama dindon.

Llamamen is just down the valley from Machynlleth, near the Centre for Alternative Technology.

It's this to link to an image hosted elsewhere:

Code: Select all

And if you want to upload from yer computer it's the "attachments" tab down there under the post you're writing. (Click "add files" or drag and drop from yer folder, then click "place inline".)

It had me amused anyway - was looking for methods of surface modification of fluorescent nanoparticles and found a surprised llama.
