The Debates
The Debates
Anyone going to be watching the first episode of this show tomorrow night?
It's a new comedy, featuring two white American men arguing with each other. One's a nice but befuddled old man. The other's a racist and confused old man.
It's on at 2 a.m. UK time, for 1.5 hours. I've found it works well to do that two sleep thing, 10 to 2, then 3:30 to 7:30.

I find I sleep better if I ignore the existence of the debates.

Re: The Debates
I heard that they're going to be talking about the most important issues of the age. Presumably climate change will feature prominently?

Re: The Debates
I think I read somewhere recently that they have machines these days that can record televisual programmes for you to (forget to) watch them later. Have you considered the possibility of looking into getting one?lpm wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 3:49 pmAnyone going to be watching the first episode of this show tomorrow night?

Some people call me strange.
I prefer unconventional.
But I'm willing to compromise and accept eccentric.

Is the non-orange one nice? Or just a bit less not nice? Or is that part of the plot?

And remember that if you botch the exit, the carnival of reaction may be coming to a town near you.

I'd like to thank the Americans for timing all their major political events (debates, election counts) to match my mornings off work. I might watch the debates. I will definitely watch the commentary. And I will definitely eat popcorn.

Re: The Debates
I haven't watched one of those debates since Obama-Romney. It was boring as f.ck, and both of those people could speak in full sentences.
I will wait for the commentary and memes, but might watch any promising segments on Biden's environmental policy. My view on Trump won't change, but my opinion of Biden is quite improvable.

Re: The Debates
Is it actually going to be a debate, or is it that a moderator will introduce a topic, usually in the form of a question, which allows the two 'debaters' to provide their basic stump spiel, while completely ignoring the question?

Which of the four channels is it on?
If truth is many-sided, mendacity is many-tongued
Re: The Debates
Over here on ABC News and SBS.
In the UK it seems to be on Sky News and possibly BBC News. Because heaven forbid a debate between the two potential leaders of the free world interfere with re-runs of Top Gear (BBC2) or NCIS: New Orleans (Ch 5).

Re: The Debates
I think what's important to note is not whether the questions will, or will not, be answered, but whether the public really wants to hear answers to questions. It's about time my honourable friend understood the the needs of ordinary working families and supported our policy to level-up the country and make Britain a world-beating nation after years of neglect, rather than trying to score cheap political points by asking questions and expecting answers.Martin_B wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2020 4:17 amIs it actually going to be a debate, or is it that a moderator will introduce a topic, usually in the form of a question, which allows the two 'debaters' to provide their basic stump spiel, while completely ignoring the question?

Trump has already sent out emails saying that he's done debating and implying that he did badly, while begging for money.

The debate starts in two hours.

Re: The Debates
That doesn't read like admitting he's done badly to me. It reads like something Trump would say regardless of how it went. But I'm glad someone in the Trump campaign is going to get an earful for pressing send too early.dyqik wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2020 10:59 pmTrump has already sent out emails saying that he's done debating and implying that he did badly, while begging for money.

I'm watching a Hindi documentary about the history of regional Indian cuisine.
Re: The Debates
An entire country watching this wants Trump to shut the f.ck up.
And will decide the way to shut him up for 4 years is to vote for Biden.
