Re: US Election
AND NOW the Giuliani lolsuit has had its evidenciary hearing, which was due tomorrow, cancelled by Judge Brann. I don't think this bodes well for the lolsuit, and Id be unsurprised if it were found they lack standing, especially given how badly Giuliani handled the standing part of it. Really, the only bit he got worse was asking for "the normal" standard of review, then snapping "that doesn't sound rational" after rational basis review was explained to him.

Re: US Election
Is this even the same lawsuit? I'm struggling to keep track off all of them, and most are bluster using the same dodgy, doomed arguments.
I note, btw, that in the lolsuit Giuliani was involved in yesterday, the Judge was firmly of the opinion the plaintiffs were suing the wrong defendants. Again, not a lawyer, but I can't imagine that being a good sign for the plaintiffs.

Another lolsuit incoming, this one in Georgia (or George, or Georiga, as Trumpists have been spelling it lately). For those not in the know, Lin Wood is not the most hinged of fellows.

Re: US Election
You can all laugh but according to this poll 70% of Republicans think that Biden’s win was due to fraud.

Seems to be the same as the last four years. Lots of people laughing at what is actually a successful strategy to influence millions of voters.
I’ll bet that for years to come, pretty much anyone wanting to get elected as a Republican will have to state that Trump was cheated out of victory by Biden, and that Biden is not a legitimate President. Trump will be out of the Whitehouse but Trumpism goes on.

Re: US Election
The disparity between claims made by the lawyers in front of the judge and claims made by the campaign to the press still qualifies it as a lolsuit, though.Grumble wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 8:54 pmNo, I don’t think it is the same one.EACLucifer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 7:37 pmIs this even the same lawsuit? Re: US Election
For those wondering about how incompetent and how evil the Trump campaign is, this is from the Pennsylvania federal lolsuit with Giuliani
Though it's very telling that every one of their attacks on a city in particular (Philadelphia, Detroit, etc) is on a city with a majority - or very large minority - of black voters. Very telling.

Re: US Election
It's pretty scary stuff. The only hope is that a solid majority are appalled by this nonsense, as it's hard to see how anyone can neutral on this. (Also interesting that this mob seems to have turned on Fox News.)Woodchopper wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 8:50 pmYou can all laugh but according to this poll 70% of Republicans think that Biden’s win was due to fraud.

Re: US Election
My hope is that this somehow splits the utter right wing crazies off from the normal rightwing crazies and the right can fight itself for a while. Trump TV vs FoxNEWs would be interesting, or could just push Fox off into utter crazy.

Re: US Election
In Pennsylvania it's COME NOW, and the (male) lawyers get "Esq." after their names.
Something something hammer something something nail
Re: US Election
It feels like WHAT NOW? would fit better in this case.
Re: US Election
I prefer the way that Beowulf starts "Hwæt!"
My avatar was a scientific result that was later found to be 'mistaken' - I rarely claim to be 100% correct
ETA 5/8/20: I've been advised that the result was correct, it was the initial interpretation that needed to be withdrawn
Meta? I'd say so!

Re: US Election
Esq. after your name means "lawyer" throughout the US. It's not used for anyone else.
Re: US Election
Is it bad if you put the judge's signature on an order you've just submitted before he rules on it?

Re: US Election
Presumably their use of it was “bogus”.
This place is not a place of honor, no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here, nothing valued is here.
What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us.
This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.

Re: US Election
Oh wow And later:“In the plaintiffs’ counties, they were denied the opportunity to have an unobstructed observation and ensure opacity,” Giuliani said. “I’m not quite sure I know what opacity means. It probably means you can see, right?”
“It means you can’t,” said U.S. District Judge Matthew Brann.
“Big words, your honor,” Giuliani said.
ETA: It does look like Trump's plan is to run down the clock and try to get electors picked that would have otherwise gone with the popular vote in that county/district.And while still in court, Giuliani retweeted someone who said he did a great job in his opening remarks.
