US Election Legal Cases
US Election Legal Cases
In case you weren't sure that the legal cases were DOA, the Supreme Court has refused to expedite the outstanding cases before it:

And he went to so much trouble to stuff it full of judges he thought would be loyal. Don't these people understand the nature of deals?
And remember that if you botch the exit, the carnival of reaction may be coming to a town near you.

Sixty four court cases post election. Sixty three Trumpist losses. One win: they were able to keep the ballot cure deadline in Pennsylvania to six days, instead of nine.

Sydney Powell got dined in Georgia today for trying to argue a cast while not being on the bar
https://twitter.com/zoetillman/status/1 ... 46945?s=21
Also apparently the New York bar is trying to remove Rudy Giuliani

Sorry to be a dry party pooper, and I know it's an entirely different jurisdiction, but I just feel *angry* at the sheer amount of court time wasted on these things, when elsewhere people with real issues are waiting years to get their cases heard, correspondence is backlogged by months etc. It's so f.cking obnoxious (and yes I'm well aware of who we're talking about here, and that the courts are doing what they can to minimize the time wasted).
To defy the laws of tradition is a crusade only of the brave.

In this case, it's maybe slightly slowing down SCOTUS hearing cases designed to overturn Roe v Wade, or the ACA...discovolante wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 3:51 pmSorry to be a dry party pooper, and I know it's an entirely different jurisdiction, but I just feel *angry* at the sheer amount of court time wasted on these things, when elsewhere people with real issues are waiting years to get their cases heard, correspondence is backlogged by months etc. It's so f.cking obnoxious (and yes I'm well aware of who we're talking about here, and that the courts are doing what they can to minimize the time wasted).
Likewise, the recess that is stopping the Senate convicting Trump after impeachment is also stopping any more right wing judges getting confirmed.

Re: US Election Legal Cases
The Trump campaign lawyers a few days ago dropped all their litigation in Georgia just as the first of the cases was about to go back before a judge. Trump's lawyer falsely claimed parties had come to a settlement. They hadn't.
Here grows much rhubarb.

Giuliani is being sued for $1.3 Gigadollars for making stuff up about Dominion voting machines. (Sidney Powell of even more batshit fame has also been sued for the same amount, but that was the other day)

What with also not getting paid, do you think he's got a twinge of regret at being Trump's lawyer?

I suppose the good new for Rudy would be if Trump was to throw his wealth behind him.
With the entire Trump fortune behind him Rudy would go from owing $1.3bn to owing a mere $1.8bn.

Searching for more evidence to skewer Trump? The Justice Department’s inspector general announced Monday that its office is opening an investigation into whether any current or former department official tried to improperly “alter the outcome of the 2020 Presidential Election” — a broad review that comes on the heels of a revelation that then-President Donald Trump considered replacing his acting attorney general with an official more amenable to his unfounded claims of voter fraud.

There's also been a fair bit of speculation and a lot of circumstantial evidence (the constant grift, the pettiness, statements from Trump himself, Trump HIMSELF, the shenanigans around his tax returns, the high-profile string of business failures etc.) that suggests that Trump is about $500m in the red and his business empire is nothing more than a fraudulent facade kept going entirely on smoke and mirrors which would crumble in an instant if the carnival barker ever stopped shilling because late-stage capitalism is f.cked.Herainestold wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 6:09 pmThe interwebz sez Donald Trump's net worth is around $2.5 billion.Little waster wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 4:52 pm$1.3bn that's steep.monkey wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 4:34 pmGiuliani is being sued for $1.3 Gigadollars for making stuff up about Dominion voting machines. Let's face it nothing would be more on-brand than if the Billionaire Businessman President turned out to be a bankrupt bumbling fraudster all along, and his entire presidential run, term, re-election campaign and attempted coup had been nothing more than a desperate last-gasp long con.
Strictly for purposes of humour, I'll go with that one.

He does owe a lot of money, some of it personally, but he or should I say the Trump companies still have substantial assets. Before his presidential run he often claimed to be worth about $10 billion. It appears to be considerably less than that, but most estimates still say he is a billionaire.Little waster wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 10:36 pmThere's also been a fair bit of speculation and a lot of circumstantial evidence (the constant grift, the pettiness, statements from Trump himself, Trump HIMSELF, the shenanigans around his tax returns, the high-profile string of business failures etc.) that suggests that Trump is about $500m in the red and his business empire is nothing more than a fraudulent facade kept going entirely on smoke and mirrors which would crumble in an instant if the carnival barker ever stopped shilling because late-stage capitalism is f.cked.Herainestold wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 6:09 pmThe interwebz sez Donald Trump's net worth is around $2.5 billion.Little waster wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 4:52 pm

But the NYT examination of his leaked tax returns concluded these business assets were all heavily-leveraged* to cover his substantial historical and ongoing business losses (often running into hundreds of millions a year and accumulatively $1.2bn even in the relative boom years of 1985-94), his sizeable personal debts (said to be of the order $400m, with an additional $300m “forgiven”) and as vehicles for tax avoidance (including just short of another billion dollars in tax exemptions).Herainestold wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 5:16 am

IIRC the actual legality of these financial manoeuvres is one of the things the IRS is currently investigating.
Viewing Trump’s actions entirely through the prism of a crook trying to keep a scam going and staying one step ahead of the authorities makes more sense of it all then any other interpretation.
With him out the WH and firmly in the sights of multiple investigations we might finally get some clarity over Swampy Don’s murky finances, I’m sure the scriptwriters still have a few belly laughs in store for us when the whole wobbly edifice collapses.
*as an example even one of his few profit-generating businesses the NY Trump Tower which he’s owned since 1983 still owes 100% of its original $100m mortgage (due 2022) even after 29 years of regular profits.

Seems like a low risk. Times he's accurately recalled anything he was told are vanishingly rare, and you just know they gave him the lies-to-children* version of everything anyway so as not to overtask his attention span.
*They would have called it the "executive summary" I expect. No, the gold level superexecutive summary, only for top, top people.
