Ivermectin
Ivermectin
Obviously an anti-parasitic isn't going to work against viruses; but that didn't stop a desperate world looking & charlatans from promoting it.
Someone here has been doing some wonderful work exposing some deadly fraud, and was mentioned in the guardian for doing so.
Good work, that man, and thanks for doing it.

Re: Ivermectin
Some days it seems like the whole planet is going to sh.t, and then we see people like Nick B. and the others trying to put it right, on their own volition, not being shills for Pharma and it gives one a little bit of hope.

Thanks all. As a scientist I'm probably never going to discover much new myself, but there is plenty of stuff to be "undiscovered"

Eco-Facsism is a thing. There's probably an overlap with organic fans and the "conspirituality" types too. That's a thing that's older than The Covids, but it only caught when people found some yoga teachers spreading Qanon and antivax bobbins and some reporters wrote some articles (AFAICT), here's one with an interview with an academic that discusses the idea and that you shouldn't be surprised that not all hippies are left wing - clickyHerainestold wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 4:52 pmThe organic food crowd are into it too, but maybe they are right wing now.
Even so, I would not say all the organic food crowd are right wing.
(preemptive apologies if this is a derail)
Re: Ivermectin
Ivermectin/vaccine conspiracies also seem to be big with a section of the Bernie Bro crowd, who see everything as a corporate conspiracy. I guess they are not particularly right wing.monkey wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 8:41 pmEco-Facsism is a thing. There's probably an overlap with organic fans and the "conspirituality" types too. An influential study from Argentina has been used to argue that ivermectin prevents COVID 100% of the time — but its inconsistencies have led experts to question if it could have actually happened as advertised.

I had a small hand in that story. There was a five-time-zone chat session to finalise the coordination between us investigators and Stephanie Lee (who will win a Pulitzer one day, sure as eggs is eggs).Woodchopper wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 1:33 amhttps://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/st ... spect-dataA Prominent Study Said Ivermectin Prevents COVID, But The Data Is Suspect

We don't know whether the main author is deliberately stalling by sending the (probably fake) data for the wrong study, or if he is just having trouble keeping the various untrue stories straight.
I am starting to wonder (cf the discussion of funding in GidMK's blog piece https://gidmk.medium.com/is-ivermectin- ... 66aa6819b3) whether there is some kind of coordination of all of these terrible studies, which seem to be mostly coming out of LMICs where $10,000 probably gets you a lot of fake data. I appreciate that this is a conspiracy theory not a million miles from "George Soros bankrolls Antifa".

Effects of Ivermectin therapy on the sperm functions of Nigerian onchocerciasis patients
Obviously onchocerciasis and other helminth infections suck, so I don't want to insult those patients, but there's definitely some Darwinism going on with covid.
