There are loads of signs of a shift by Republicans.
I think several here are under-estimating how bad the hearings are for Trump, and how ill he is.
Republicans know he won't be on the 2020 ballot but need to position themselves OK with the MAGA-morons. At some point there'll be a sudden switch over.
I wonder if they'll go for the 'this illegal and immoral witchhunt has taken a dreadful toll on him and the stress is getting to him' before trying a 25th.
that way they get to keep pence & the impetus for the impeachment drops away, even though sondland has said Pence knew about it too.
Trump is currently on stage claiming that the fake news media reported he had an unbelievable massive heart attack last Saturday. No media reported this.
So I guess we now know he went to Walter Reed because of a suspected minor heart attack.

Actually, this could be part of a stage-managed 25th amendment exit which will see Pence pardon t'rump as his first act in office.
Then t'rump doesn't have to admit he's officially demented

I'm not sure Trump has the self-awareness required to go for that.

But Pence & others in the inner circle have the intelligence and cunning to recognise that it may be the only way to close off the impeachment without looking totally corrupt. Just use nudge phrases to get the doctors to assess for a potential heart attack (tell the quacks he was complaining of chest/arm pain, for example), any doctor would have to assess t'rump for it if there was a suspicion & then you have the prez being assessed for heart attacks and an excuse to 25th him. Pence says he's unfit, a majority of the cabinet agrees & then he's gone. Explain to t'rump tht he'll still get called Mr President and gets a troupe of armed guards for the rest of his life & he doesn't have to do any more boring politics. Offer him a pardon (although don't grant it until the last minute, to buy his silence for as long as possible) and some perk (something gold or unlimited use of an aeroplane & chopper to get to his golf courses - call it Air Force Trump or something - as long as Pence is prez) and job's a good 'un.

I think they've got 2 ways to go:
1- Some convoluted delicate way of moving Trump aside/out and replacing him with someone who appeals to the white supremacist crowd, but also carries enough of the non white-supremacist crowd to give them a decent chance of either getting elected or giving them a term to lick their wounds and pull some new strategy together
2- Shoot the moon, bet the lot, and totally absolutely commit to blocking any kind of opposition or democratic accountability, no matter what it takes. If he uses the N word on twitter* and declares that there's no more elections because he is now king, give 100% full throated support and push for violent retribution against anyone who says so much as "That doesn't sound right...." as traitors against the glorious immortal emperor, as predicted by Jesus in the constitution.
*I've genuinely tried to find betting sites that would give me odds for this happening.

Or, he can run again and win.
Don't bet against the Dems f.cking it up again, with some flawed candidate nobody really wants. Especially if sanders clings on long enough to stir up apathy* about that candidate, like last time.

Trump will use the impeachment saga to rile his base and antagonize his opponents. He is betting that the Democratic party will over react and he willo gain some support from moderates. He doesn't need a lot of support to hold on to the White House. It just has to be in key areas.
